well, it appears my last journal entry caused a lot of conflict, but more importantly, it caused some people to think. debate flourished, it was awesome. in high school we had to read some kind of text, be it a poem or a book, and state what we thought it meant to us, and cite examples from the text to support our thoughts. i have been listening to Metallica a lot again, and the thing that is great about Metallica, is they are not dumb rock. their lyrics have depth, meaning, some of which is vague, and open to interpertation. i would like to take one of these songs, and give my feelings and interpertations to it, all those who want to join in are welcome to share your thoughts.

This song has sort of a motif centering around a door and sunlight. I think that these are used as metephors to describe a person who may be afraid to share a relationship with a girl, and slowly begins to accept her into his heart, but by the time he fully lets her in, she has already left him. in the first part, he says "the door is locked now, but its open if youre true, if you can understand the me, then i can understand the you" This means that he is hesitant to share his heart with her, but if she is true to him, and learns to understand him, he will let her in eventually. The second part he says "the door cracks open, but there's no sun shining through" meaning he has began to let her in, but he is still not feeling the connection he needs with her. During the chorus he asks, "Behind the door, should i open it for you? or are you unforgiven too", meaning he wants to know if she will break his heart like everyone else. In the final part is says "the door is closed, so are your eyes, but now i see the sun" meaning that she has left him, but now he sees what he has been missing all this time, as he has been hurt again he says, "I take this key, and i bury it in you, because you are unforgiven too", meaning he has once again locked away his heart in fear of being hurt again.
