Last year I turned 21 years old.
It's a big deal, especially when I lived two blocks from Boys Town in Chicago. I got a lot of drinks, turned purple, danced my heart out, and just had a wonderful time with a lot of wonderful people. It was also the day that I decided I wanted to become Catholic. Strange, right?
My boyfriend got me the best birthday present ever: Bears Tickets to their first game versus the Green Bay Packers in Chicago, which he hid cleverly in a bag with chibi R2D2 and C3P0 on it. The game was a little bit after my birthday, but was absolutely amazing and just one of the greatest times I've had in Chicago.
This year is strange, different, and I'm a little nervous about my birthday.
I'm going to be 22. It'll be my golden birthday, 22 on the 22nd of September. Sweet! But... I'll be alone. But! I'll be in London. I won't have classes yet, just orientation at the University of Westminster. Kinda completely different than the year before, right?
It's also different because I've received most of my gifts ahead of time. A USB drive, cooling station, and camera from my brother. Tons from my sister. A coach purse from my Sis-in-law and oldest brother (as well as VS Bears and Cubs shirts). A University of Georgia VS t-shirt and a guidebook to London from the boyfriend's parents. A My Little Pony T-shirt from boyfriend's little sister.
AND, my boyfriend surprised me today with a package from amazon. Inside was a plushie Darth Vader. First off, I thought I had accidentally ordered it on Amazon because I had it on my "gift ideas" list for said boyfriend. But now, I asked him and TA DA! A surprise birthday present. One that I can take to London and cuddle and that'll remind me of him. Sentimental. Nerdy. Adorable. All the things I love about him.
So as much as the excitement and nervousness is all jumbled inside of me for my birthday, I know that it's already been amazing. My family and friends have already done so much for me that I couldn't ask for more.
Happy Early Birthday to me? ha.
