Truly plopped down in the seat across from Stella as the woman worked in her office. She looked up at Truly, being interrupted and unable to work with her staring.
"Hi, Truly," said Stella, placing her pen off to the side.
"Can I ask you something?" asked Truly, picking at her nail polish as she sat. Stella shrugged.
"Sure, what is it?"
"Is it weird that I’d consider you my best friend?" Truly asked, looking at Stella cautiously.
"You need to get out more if I'm your best friend," said Stella with a laugh.
"People don't seem to like me all that much. is there something wrong with you being my best friend?"
"No," said Stella quickly, shaking her head and trying to hold back laughter. "It's just funny that's you'd considered me your best friend."
"You're the only one who knows how my mind works?" said Truly seriously, which just seemed to make Stella laughed harder. "I'm serious, Stella! To everybody around me, I'm a complete bitch, but you know me. You know how I can be."
Stella just shook her head. "you're still a bitch most of the time."
"Stella-Bell, I'm hurt that you would say such things."
"Especially when such things are true," Truly pouted, slumping pathetically in her chair. Stella rolled her eyes and tossed her pen at the younger woman. "Fine, fine. Truly, as your best friend I demand you leave me alone so I can go home at a decent hour," truly held up her hands in defeat and stood up, tossing Stella's pen back at her and laughing as it bounced off her forehead.
"I'll see you later?" asked Truly, pausing at Stella's office door and turning back to look at her. Stella nodded.
"I'll call you," she said, waving Truly out of her office. Truly waved back and left. Stella shook her head, a smile still gracing her face.
"Best friend," she muttered under her breath. "More like only friend."
