Once again Viktor couldn't sleep. Every sleepless night since Gremio's passing, Viktor had examined the axe in whatever dim light he could find. The first time it shone incredibly bright under the full moon as Viktor, upon the party's return from Soniere, dangled it over the waters of Lake Toran. Viktor had, unsurprisingly, found the words "I will always protect young master" engraved on the hilt that night, a mark of loyalty but also of stubbornness that had brought Gremio to Soniere Prison, despite Viktor's hunch, to refuse to open that door...
Another time, under candlelight, the axe had a hint of gold, like the color of the locks that draped down Gremio's emerald cape. Did Gremio like to keep his hair long or was he too busy fretting over his Young Master that he sometimes forgot to cut it? To Gremio, was that the same thing?
Tonight the axe was silver. Silver, like the mirror that reflected Viktor's words but twisted them, like the blade that pierced Viktor's gut upon the realization that...
