For the Love of Spanish Mary
I've been meaning to post this for the last few months and I finally remembered!
This is sung by one of my favourite musicians - the incredibly talented Rhiannon Giddens. She writes some truly beautiful and powerful songs, performs solo and is also in the wonderful Carolina Chocolate Drops. It's been a while since a musician has instilled such respect for them in me - she's really something special and you should look her up if you haven't heard of her before.
This is from the New Basement Tapes - Lyrics by Bob Dylan put to music and sung by other musicians. The whole album is great but this is my favourite.
Below the cut, I've put a few of her other performances - a live session of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, one of her solo playing banjo and one of the Carolina Chocolate Drops with the Chieftans - if you like folk and roots music, you'll like them.
