I hadn't seen this film in ages and just recently rewatched it. If you haven't seen it before, it's one I'd highly recommend. Jane Campion is a master (or is it mistress?) film maker.  I find every one of her works a treat and The Piano is no exception ( Read more... )

I own the Piano excellent movie though I do find it depressing that a movie that came out about 5 years after I graduate from high school is now being called "retro"... am I really that old?

Sorry if I made you feel old my dear - I simply used the term to let people know it had been out for a while - 20years to be exact - and to distinguish it from the rec for Campion's latest work, Top of the Lake.

The Piano is a wonderful film, isn't it? I don't know why it's taken me so long to watch it again, but I'm glad it came to mind, as it made me think of her and find this mini series, which I'd somehow missed hearing about.

Oh my Lord, is it really 1993 that I saw The Piano.
But thanks for the reminder about how good it was.
Put on my 'to watch' list for the end of my travels.

I've never thought of Harvey Keitel as a sexy man except for in The Piano. He is a god in this movie. It's an amazing story.

Yes, he really is a god in this movie, isn't he? I'm of the same mind re Harvey Keitel normally. Although I do enjoy his acting, I don't fancy him in the least - except in this film.

Jane Campion's new mini-series Top of the Lake looks to be very interesting, too. Keep an eye out for it and if you watch it, tell me what you think. I'm looking forward to a bit of Campion magic. I hope she translates well into the TV mini-series genre.
