On ffnet

I've just read laurielover1912 's post on the subject, and I must say, I agree with her point of view and thought I'd offer up my two cents' worth, along with an idea or two on how to deal with the current events over in ffnet land.

Most likely, you'll have come up with these solutions yourself, but, being an Aussie, I love to state the bleeding obvious.

I've been amazed we've got away with it as long as we have. But there it is. I still don't think it's going to wipe out all explicit fics, if many at all. Mine are all still intact at the moment. You never know though. I've backed everything up, but fingers crossed anyway.

It will be very sad if many great fics are lost from there, but it's a fair cop, to be honest.

How are you, btw? I've been very busy, as you know. Coming back to the land of the sentient though ... holiday for a week now ... yippeeeeee! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes, it has been a fair run when you think about it, hasn't it? I seem to recall a bit of a token clean up a few years ago too, but I don't think it affected too many people.

I'm still slowly on the mend - it's taken a lot longer than I expected or wanted, but what can you do? I'm getting there though, so that's the main thing.

I'll eventually be up and about as I'd like - hopefully sooner than later!

As for you, young lady...Yay for hols!!! Hope you have a great one! This is your long summer one, yes?

Nothing wrong with stating the obvious. It's often what people miss.
If my fics get deleted, che sera sera. I read the rules (and if you didn't you should have), I broke them, I must take the consequence. QED.

It's not so much the mods as it is a group of people prowling around and reporting fics. The mods are MIA for the most part unless someone points something out, but said people doing the reporting are also in violation of the TOS. But such is life. As it is I've seen kids writing some crazier stuff than I...and I think it's up to the parents to know what their kids are doing on the computer.

How is it against TOS to report fics for contravening TOS?

Sorry, that looks snitty when typed - it's not meant that way - just curious. Is it the methods used to hunt the TOS breakers down?

Sorry, but I have to partially disagree with your comment on teens and the net. If it were just up to parents and there were no laws involved, then that would leave anyone free to start open aged porn sites and all sorts of nasty things.

There are laws involved, and they're there for good reason when it comes to age restriction. They don't always do the best job, and allow subject matter like graphic violence and then jump on sexually based things, but they are needed, even if they're not perfect.

Yes, parents should be aware of what their kids are getting up to online, but many parents aren't anywhere near as internet savvy as their kids. I'm fairly internet savvy I have a tracking program on my kid's computer, and I'm the parent of a teen - and I've still found it an uphill battle at times especially when he was a 'tweeny' to a younger
