Well, as much as anyone can 'have' a cat...
I went down to the pound today, as I have fairly regularly since Christmas, to see if they had any rescue cats - and yes! I now welcome into the family...Gin-gin - a lovely, laid back, very friendly, ENORMOUS (for his age) ginger moggy! (Gin-gin is an affectionate nickname for gingers in our town. The generic term around here is 'ranger', as in orangutan - it's like Weasley Central here - never seen so many bloodnuts in one place!
Poor fella's been in the wars - he's had his left inner toe cut or torn off so he's 'thumbless' on that paw - it's healing nicely, and doesn't appear to be bothering him, and he has a weepy and slightly swollen left eye, which looks as though he has an infection in it and is going to his sinus - so it's off to the vet tomorrow for a check up, immunisations and microchipping. He's still only about half grown, and it's hard to tell if he's been neutered, but if he hasn't then that will be happening soon too. He's going to be a big boy when he's finished growing, as he's the size of many fully grown cats already!
He was on death row, and due for the needle tomorrow morning, so I got him in the nick of time, and he's already made himself at home. My two dogs are pretty cool with him, although I'm only letting them around him under my supervision until all the kinks are ironed out. They're used to cats, so give it a day or two, and they'll all be fine together - he's already done the big headbutts and rubs against my female dog. She's a bit intimidated by his size still, as my last two cats (sisters) were tiny little things. My male dog is just ignoring him, and waiting for him to make the first move, but it will all be good.
The only thing that has me worried is that he's very relaxed and affectionate, but doesn't seem to purr - I've never had a cat that doesn't purr, so I'll be asking my vet about that, too - hope it doesn't mean anything serious, although he appears to be in good health apart from his injury and his eye, so here's hoping!
