I had to go and open my big mouth (via keyboard) and asked
laurielover1912 for another three names. I think she knows me too well, and knows I like a challenge - she gave me Heathcliff, Mr Darcy and Edward Rochester.
What's a girl to do??
(
My (dubious to many I'd say) choices )
Hmmm, where do I start?
First, I think Heathcliff would be intensely uncomfortable (and very soon incredibly annoying) as a lover. Possibly good in the sack, but I'd constantly be wondering if he was closing his eyes and imagining me as his unworthy little obsession. I'd do us all a favor and kick his muscled arse right over the cliff, sending him to his precious Cathy so they can emotionally mutilate each other for eternity. I would find that entirely satisfying as an ending to their "love" story. I'm just sorry lightning didn't strike the tree he was under and do the job for me.
As for Darcy, I would shag him...BUT... first I'd strip him and tie him up, hanging him in front of my cold, stone wall for effect. I think he's terribly repressed and could only let go and become a good f**k after he is relieved of his tightly closed self-possession. That would only happen if he isn't in control. Don't you think he'd find several intriguing ways to please his partner if he didn't have to keep that pole up his butt in place? It might take a bit of work, but he could really pay for the wear and tear on a riding crop, LOL. Just my opinion, but he does seem the type.
And last, I'd marry Rochester. He's already gone through hell, much of it self-inflicted, so he would by far be the best of the lot to have to live with for the rest of one's life. He'd still be something of a challenge here and there, so married life wouldn't be boring (read Darcy), but neither would it be by turns terrifying, irritating, and exhausting (read Heathcliff). AND he's still young enough to please sexually, and comes with a nice estate and a rich existence on the purely mercenary plane; I'm all about a comfortable life with enough money to enjoy it, in bed and out.
LaBib - putting away the pitchfork as it wasn't needed to train Darcy; he was happy with the riding crop. 8-)

While I agree that Heathcliff is a nasty piece of work, I'd still prefer him to Darcy, but only for a very short period of time, and only if Cathy never existed - I was thinking in terms of him focussing all that passion on me. He'd be a bastard to get rid of though, once you'd had your fill, hence the need for the midnight flit, name change, and possible move abroad! (or, perhaps, a nice scenic walk along the cliff edge... but no bungees this time)
Maybe a riding crop, and a bit of discipline would, as you say, get the pole out of Darcy's bum - but if I'm just going for the shag, I don't want to go to all that trouble lol.
I'm glad we've all agreed on Rochester to marry - and yes, I guess the money would be a plus - I've never really considered finances to any great degree when it comes to relationships - I guess because I hate the idea of being in a position where I rely on someone for financial support. Says a lot about the men I've had in my life, doesn't it? lol! I haven't been financially dependent on anyone since I was a teen - and the idea fills me with dread!
Even with Rochester, I'd most probably make sure that I could be financially independent somehow - perhaps he could irrevocably gift me a nice sizable portion of his estate...yeah...I could live with that!

That's what I mean about Heathcliff being exhausting -- as you said, "the midnight flit, name change, and possible move abroad! (or, perhaps, a nice scenic walk along the cliff edge".
And, Hmmm, I don't exactly see training Darcy as going to all that trouble. But if you do, then, yes, you need to shag ol' Heathcliff senseless, then give him flying lessons while he's still in the afterglow. One warning: I don't think, given the excerpt you posted from Wuthering Heights here, that Heathcliff is going to forget Cathy (that's why he's my cliff candidate). If she'd never existed, maybe you figure he'd just be another hot, horny male who could ride you to oblivion? As long as we're in fantasy mode, it works out perfectly for you (and for my riding crop, LOL).

I do agree on the Heathcliff front - bloody impossible - but when I think of various images of him against craggy backdrops I'm not entirely sure I could resist one shag.
Basically, still confused.
