Friday
While my dad heads to a baseball game, my mom and I head to the rehersal for my Uncle's wedding, as we were singing at it. The song we were singing was boring and lousy, and our co-singer (my cousin) hadn't practised and sounded awful. But alas, that's the way the wafer crumbles.
After the rehersal, my mom and I went to one of the malls to pick up grad presents for two of my cousins, who are graduating this June. We stop by an engraving kiosk, where my mom suggested picture frames or keychains with their names engraved. This screamed "predictable" to me, so I suggested an alternative. I found two jewellery boxes/music boxes and suggested those instead. Mom thought that was a great idea (especially since the music boxes played "My Heart Will Go On" and my cousins loved "Titanic") and went to buy them. While she did that, I zipped over to a kiosk a little further down, which was selling Manga, Anime DVDs, and plushies. I looked around for something I could convert into a Dib plushie, when I found the "Ouran High School Host Club" manga and got volume one of that instead. Besides, I wasn't having much luck with the plushies. I swear, they need to make a store that does custom design plushies. They'd make a KILLING. At least off me.
My mom told me that the engraving wouldn't be done until tomorrow morning, so I needed to come back with my dad the next day. Wondering what to do with the rest of the night, we considered going to see "At World's End" before we realized it was sold out. Instead we went back to my aunt's and watched "Dead Man's Chest" again. Smart idea too, because my mom had forgotten half the movie and would have been bugging me constantly with "What's going on?" throughout AWE if we'd gone to see it.
Saturday
At about 3:00 AM, I was woken up by a cold nose on my forehead. My aunt's cat had decided to investigate the strange people in his house. He spent the rest of the night cuddled against my leg. I never got back to sleep.
At about 8:00, my dad got me up so I could get ready for more shopping. Whoopee. I took one step outside and realized it was pouring rain. It didn't let up until about 8:00 that night. Fun times.
Our first stop was a flea market where I found some old Nintendo games. The lady there was asking $30.00 for them. Ten bucks yes, thirty bucks hells no. After that, we went to my aunt's house (a different one) to drop off the last of my Grandpa's estate. I stayed in the car because my aunt hasn't cleaned her house in 20 years and I'm ill enough as it is. By this time it was 10:00, so we went to pick up the jewelery boxes. I also picked up volume 2 of "Ouran". We then went over for lunch at Smitty's, which was the only non-fast food place that had parking. It took us an hour to get our food, and then we had to head back to my aunt's (the one we stayed with) so we could change into our clothes for the wedding.
The wedding was at 3:00. I'm still in a state of shock that my uncle, who's been a confirmed bachelor for 30 years, is married. The wedding was small, sweet, and beautiful. My mom, my cousin, and I sang about half-way through, and as I predicted, we sucked. Everyone said we sounded great though, proving that my family has lousy taste in music.
Three hours after the wedding, we drove over to a restaurant called "Bailey's" which had a gorgeous gothic atmosphere to it. The dinner was pretty good, but I spent the entire dinner annoyed at the fact that EVERY woman there (save my mom and her sister) seemed to want to upstage the bride. Also, you know how at weddings, you clink glasses to get the bride and groom to kiss? That happened 15 TIMES. God damnit, IT'S NOT FUNNY ANYMORE.
The dinner was over at 9:00, so my parents and I stopped at a Tim Horton's for coffee, and then went to get gas.
And THAT'S when my weekend got interesting.
While my dad was paying for gas, my mom and I were sitting in the car, somewhat staring off into space. We noticed a car stop at a stop light...only to get rear-ended by the man behind him. The damage to both cars was tiny, but the victim still got on the phone and called 911. I couldn't figure out why until I saw the other driver: even from 10 feet away, I could tell he was drunk off his ass. As the victim called the police, the drunk driver decided to jump back in his car. The victim held the door open to try and stop him, but the drunk drove off anyway, nearly taking the victim's arm off. My dad went to go see if everyone was ok, and found out that the victim's wife had back surgery recently. Since whiplash could have cause major problems, we called an ambulance too. 10 minutes later, my parents and I are all giving statements to the police, and helping load this woman in the ambulance. The police got our phone number, and said they would call if we were needed for anything more. After about an hour, we were allowed to go home. Well, no one can say I don't lead an entertaining life, can they?
