A/N: So I saw this prompt
community.livejournal.com/glee_angst_meme/336.html and realized I couldn't do that to Faberry but this story wouldn't leave my head. Also this is my very first attempt at a multi chapter story ( just call me a little A.D.D) so I really hope you enjoy and I'll do my best to update...I pinky swear:)
Rachel Berry with the gold star sticker, she no longer needed the metaphor because the gold star hanging on the door at the end of her name (because she’d specifically asked for it to be put at the end of her name and not have her name written across it) told Rachel Berry every night that she had finally become a star.
The revival of West Side Story had become a huge success and Rachel’s portrayal of Maria had rumors flying about a possible Tony nomination. Everything had turned out exactly as she’d planned.
Rachel sat down at her vanity table and slowly reached her hand out to trace the worn and faded edges of the picture she kept in the corner of the mirror. Graduation Day, everyone was dressed in their red cap and gowns with huge smiles covering their faces. Artie was in his chair with a laughing Tina sprawled across his lap. Kurt and Mercedes were joined at the hip with Kurt sweeping a lock of hair across his forehead that had managed to escape the cap. Finn, Matt, and Mike had arms raised and mouths open mid-roar because they loved a good dinosaur impression. Brittany and Santana were so tightly entangled that the only indication where one started and the other began was the mesmerizing swirl of tan skin against pale. Puck smiled down at his giggling daughter, who’s blonde little curls he’d fashioned into the most adorable Mohawk ever… against Quinn’s protests of course. Lila ‘Drizzle’ Fabray was settled comfortably on Rachel’s hip trying to grasp the swinging tassel on top of her cap and Quinn had her arm possessively draped across Rachel’s waist as she smiled down at the brunette holding her daughter.
Rachel closed her eyes and took a slow, deep breath as the intense ache began to spread through her body. Her world had crumbled that day; fell to pieces around her feet. The picture was her reminder. Her heart had shattered that day; into so many pieces that she never did find them all…and the picture was her punishment.
I want everything too much.
The words played on a continuous loop in Rachel’s head as she stared at Quinn; who was currently sitting on the piano bench in the Glee Club’s Rehearsal Room adjusting her cap and gown. Her blonde hair was loosely curled and falling down past her shoulders as the red cap sat slightly askew atop her head.
“This thing is ridiculous!”
Rachel squeezed her hands together tightly in front of her waist. It was over and the red cap and gown was just a glaring reminder.
“It looks lovely Quinn.”
It wasn’t a lie because Quinn Fabray would look lovely in anything and Rachel just smiled at the meticulously arched blonde eyebrow as she sat down next to Quinn on the bench.
“No it doesn’t Rachel and you know how I know that…because I can see exactly how you look in yours and lovely is not the adjective I’m thinking of.”
Quinn had finally had enough of the damn thing and since the ceremony was over and pictures had been taken, she pried it from her head and sat it down on top of the piano, running her fingers through the blonde strands to fix the hat hair.
“Well is there a particular reason for this impromptu gathering because I can tell you right now that I am not Puck and I am definitely NOT going commando underneath this hideous gown.” Quinn stated with a crooked smile hoping to pull Rachel back from whatever little reminiscing hole she was teetering on the edge of.
“I love you Quinn, and Drizzle too.”
Quinn could hear the desperation in Rachel’s voice and it squeezed her heart like a vice but before she could respond Rachel’s lips were on hers, hard and demanding. Rachel’s teeth dug into Quinn’s bottom lip and she gasped, giving Rachel’s tongue the perfect opportunity to sweep inside her mouth. Quinn was breathless when she finally managed to pull away from Rachel, who still had her eyes tightly closed.
“Rachel, what’s this about?”
“I’m going to Julliard.”
“Yeah, I know Rachel. I mean how could I forget the two hour PowerPoint Presentation on Rachel Berry’ s Slightly Altered Because of Her Teen Mom Girlfriend Five Year Plan. You even have a list of school’s picked out for Lila…New York won’t know what hit it when you two get there.”
She’d promised Quinn and Drizzle she’d wait, but apparently Julliard wasn’t willing to wait for her. Rachel couldn’t stop her lower lip from trembling as she looked at Quinn.
“I’m going to Julliard…and I have to leave tomorrow.”
All the air was knocked from Quinn’s lungs and she just sat there, mouth hanging open, waiting to be able to breathe again. Rachel was still talking but Quinn was only hearing every other word; Can’t hold it, summer program, once in a lifetime.
Quinn swiped angrily at the tears clinging to her eyelashes, she should have known better. She pushed herself off the piano bench and away from Rachel but Rachel just followed.
“Say something Quinn, please.”
Rachel grabbed for Quinn’s wrist and was shocked at the strength with which Quinn tore her fingers away.
“Say something; you want me to say something Rachel? Congratulations.”
“Quinn I…” Rachel stopped abruptly at the sound of Quinn’s strained laughter.
“You win Rachel!”
“Quinn I don’t know what you mean.”
“It’s what you’ve wanted all along; revenge, right? We meant nothing to you this whole time.” Quinn said in a hushed voice because it was truly all she could manage. “I should have known better, you’re Rachel Fucking Berry and you’ll stop at nothing. You wanted to destroy me, make me pay for the things I’ve done, the person I used to be right?” Quinn rubbed the corner of her eyes with the scratchy material of her gown but her tears just seemed to roll off the material.
“No Quinn.” Rachel’s voice was low as she shook her head back and forth. “I love y-“
“No! This…” Quinn said waving her arm between the two of them, “…this meant nothing.”
“Quinn, don’t say that, please don’t say that.” Rachel whispered as she followed Quinn to the door.
“Goodbye Rachel.”
Rachel watched Quinn walk away until the tears blurred her vision. Slowly she sank down the door frame, resting her head on her knees, “I just want everything too much.”
Rachel slowly opened her eyes at the persistent knocking on her dressing room door, although she made no move to get up to answer it. She knew exactly who it was and he’d let himself in.
“Come on Berry its open mic night and we know how much you love to critique the local talent!” Jesse exclaimed as he threw himself across Rachel’s pink couch.
“Jesse those people are never going to learn…..”
“Unless a Broadway Diva such as your self leaves them constructive criticism scrawled across a napkin, conspicuously placed on their table while they’re at the bar.”
“Exactly!” Rachel exclaimed standing from her seat and placing her fists on her hips.
Jesse jumped up from the couch, linked his arm through Rachel’s and the two headed out the door.
