I enjoy October for a number of reasons. Generally, September is a fairly heavy allergy month for me, and, while I still have troubles, they diminish in October. It's also when harvest type foods become quite big-- apples and pumpkins, for instance, which leads to more pies.
It's also the lead-up to Halloween, which is one of my favorite holidays. I do like to dress in costume, although I'm not very good at making them, so if I want something not off-the-rack, it requires some imagination, and sometimes begging a friend to borrow their sewing skills.
As part of my lead-up to Halloween, I have a bunch of movies I tend to watch in October. I've never been one who can cope with horror movies, as I have way too overactive an imagination and they cause me troubles for days afterwards. But there are the comedy horroresque ones that I can watch and enjoy. I have a nice long list. I share it here:
The Addams Family
Addams Family Values
Arsenic and Old Lace
Bedazzled
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie, not the show-- I haven't seen the show yet)
The Burbs
Clue (generally I watch this more than once. I love this movie!)
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters 2
High Anxiety
Little Shop of Horrors
The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Murder By Death
The Phantom of the Opera (Gerard Butler, *heartfelt sigh*)
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Transylvania 6-5000
Young Frankenstein
I like watching movies related to a given holiday or event. For instance, I always try to watch Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day, and V for Vendetta on Nov 5, and Tora! Tora! Tora! on Dec 7. And I have a list like this for Christmas movies that I watch in December. There something about watching these sorts of movies that help put me in the mood for the holiday.
Which reminds me, I need to see if I can watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade online this year; since it's about the only thing I ever watch on actual TV (as opposed to DVDs or the 'net), I never bothered with getting a digital converter box for my TV. It'll be sad if I don't catch part of the parade on Thanksgiving Day, since it's something I tend to do most years, but it won't break Thanksgiving for me.
But for now, it's October, and I get to enjoy the month, and the mood.
