THIS SHORT STORY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY NOVEL AS OF YET! IT IS A SEPARATE STORY, MADE ENTIRELY FOR FAN'S ENJOYMENT!
Also, if I catch anyone stealing my work for their own, I will hunt them down, and do very mean things to them. What kinds of mean things? Well, what would you do if you found out someone ripped your work? Yeah, that's what I thought. I'd be pissed too.

Title: "Final Mission"
Author: Dave Whitney

Dalincan looked at the man shadowed in black that sat on the throne. Flames erupted around him and the group behind him jumped a little. His wife, Fara, tightened her grip on his hand and gave a little yelp in fear. 'Why do we have to stay here?' She sent into his mind telepathically, 'Why not just end this madness and come home with me and wait with me for our unborn child to arrive?' She rubbed her other hand over her developing stomach.
John and Kai, fused together into a were-demon called Kaion growled and looked at the shadowed figure savagely. “I want to tear him apart, Dalin. Let me have the first shot!” He growls again and slobber falls out of his mouth and sizzles into nonexistence before it reaches the ground.
Spreading her wings, Luna, Daughter of both Heaven and Hell themselves allowed her dark side to somewhat take over. She had a miniature Grim Reaper on her shoulder, laughing as it played with its scythe. “Father, why do you resist us, knowing your most powerful guardians have perished? Why not just give up? I don’t like having to face you like this.” Her eyes flashed in the man’s direction with a savage crimson color, her wings black as the Fallen One’s. She raised her hands, ready to command the forces of Hell itself in its own realm.
The figure stood up off of his throne and flashed a smile. “This is a most unlikely group to come take me out. I knew the rulers of the Heavenly Realm had it in for me, but to send my own daughter along with a snarling, untrained mutt, a cowering female mage who carries a descendant of Hell incarnate, and her husband; the Legendary Dalincan. High Mercenary of the Realms.” He looks to Dalincan with a mock frown. “I would have thought you would have come alone, seeing I am the real reason the Heavens asked for you back.” He chuckles and draws his sword with one hand while calling forth Death and Beelzebub with his other. “Now, let’s see how you fare in this fight. Come at me, Mercinary, and show me how pathetic you really are! Allow me, Lucifer, King of the Realm of Death and Suffering, to bring you all to your demise and capture your souls and add them to my collection of most prized prisoners!” He spreads his fallen-tainted wings and leaps into the air, charging at Dalincan with his blade stretched outward.
Drawing Hellbreaker, Dalincan looked into the air at the charging God of the Damned. His eyes blazed white with the fires of justice and vengeance. He releases his grip on Fara’s hand as Luna grabs her from behind. Fara lets out a surprised shriek but quickly calmed down as she felt Luna’s touch. “Lucifer, I did not want this mission,” He jumped out of the way as the God landed on the ground in front of him. “But I took it because I had to agree with the Heavens that your grip on the mortal world was becoming too tight. They hired me not as Dalincan the High Mercenary, but as Dalincan, The Outer Realms’ Last Hope.” He holds Hellbreaker in a defensive position and notices Beelzebub chase after Luna and Fara while Kaion had his hands full with Death. “Come at me with all you have, Father of all Demons and Unholies, and I will show you what the bite of the Legendary Mercenary really feels like.”
Lucifer takes a second to grin before he charged at Dalincan. He fired a couple demonic energy blasts ahead of him in hope to distract the waiting half-Vampire. Dalincan stood his ground as the balls of energy exploded off of him. The heavens had fitted his armor and soul to be able to fully resist the Dark side of the magical spectrum. He charges toward the Demon-God with his own blade. “Soul Reaving Slash!” he shouts and slashes at Lucifer’s torso. The Fallen One was ready. He stopped short and clubbed Dali in the back of the head. Dali fell, his sword barely grazing Lucifer’s skin as he hit the ground. He turns on his back and sees the sword of his opponent in his face. “Impressive, not that I would expect less form a God. So, are you going to kill me, or toy with me?” He asked with a grin on his face. His eyes continued blazing with their white tinge and his hand remained on the handle of his sword. Lucifer eying him carefully as he lays there. 'Good.' Dalincan thought to himself. 'He’s faltering already, and buying my fake.'
Meanwhile not too far from the spot Dalincan lay, Kaion was heated in an engagement with Death. His hide was torn in several places where the Demi-God had sliced him with his scythe and bleeding decently. “You’re good.” Kaion says to his opponent. “But not good enough to take me down on the first shot. Looks like you need to tune up a little on your technique.” He grinned at the entity before him. Death just floated in place, not saying anything as it normally would. Kaion spit a clot from his mouth and continued grinning. He leapt at where Death’s head should be. “Burning Knuckle!” He shouted as the blow landed. Death began to feel itself tear apart. It stabbed the tip of its scythe into Kaion’s spine and pulled up as it fell to the ground. Kaion howled in pain as he felt his body being lost. He collapsed onto the ground, dying. His head was turned and he got a glimpse of his friend one more time. “Take… him out… you bastard…” he uttered as he died.
Dali looked over at his friend mortified. Lucifer’s expression was one of amusement. “He did well, for a Werewolf wannabe.” He kept his sword trained on Dali as the half-Vampire lay on the ground. He looked down at Dalincan. “Well, there goes your best friend. Now let’s see what happens with your precious wife and ‘sister’.” Dalincan’s expression grows fierce. “You leave Fara alone, Lucifer.” He says growling.
Luna flies to a remote area and sets Fara down. “Stay here, Miss Fara.” She warns as she readies a shrieken. Beelzebub stops and looked hungry. His grotesque, zombie-like form, oozing with the souls of the damned. “Luna, Daughter of Lucifer. It pains me to have to kill you in this manner, but you see, I have no choice.” He grinned as he raised a hand. Fara became engulfed in flames and souls of the tortured. “LUNA!” She shouted before her soul was taken as well. Beelzebub lowered his hand and the flames died as well as the souls. He arches as he absorbs Fara’s soul as his own. Fara’s shell of a body was nothing more than a charred mass that was beginning to shimmer into nothingness.
Luna shifted her gaze once again on Beelzebub, the darkness within her fully taking control. She raises her hands, summoning thousands of spirits and demons to her aide. She also draws her katana. “You will be the one to die, Bug.” She snarls. “I refuse to let her death especially go unpunished. I may not rule this plane, but you know that you’re no match for me.” She charged for the Demi-God-Demon, ready to dice him where he floated. Her legions following close behind, some zooming ahead to try and make a few dents in the hungry fiend.
Dalincan felt a tear in his heart, and knew immediately what it was. “FARA!” he shouted. He knew she had been killed, despite Luna’s attempts to keep her safe. He picked up Hellbreaker and smashed Lucifer’s blade from his face as he raised to his feet. His eyes were no longer burning white. They were flaming red with vengeance. “Lucifer!” He shouts while slashing and parrying against the God. “You will pay dearly! Prepare to die and have your soul added to those you’ve taken and tortured!”
Luna charges and slashes at the waiting Beelzebub. Her legions moving with her. She slashes more as her legions begin to diminish as Beelzebub absorbs them into his body. “Luna please. You haven’t been here for centuries. You have to expect that I’ve grown stronger since the last time I saw you.” He laughs as he reaches out with a hand, grabbing the arm she held her Katana in. Luna snarled in fury and drew the arm blade for her free arm. Before she could make another move, Beelzebub began absorbing her soul. “Time to become a true part of your other home, Princess.” He says with a smile. Luna screaming in pain, unable to resist physically, she allows her darkness to concede. Her wings start to turn white as her soul is completely absorbed. She dies and her body falls to the ground below. Beelzebub feels his power level spike. “I’ve never felt so strong!” he shouts. He laughs and stops. Light begins to shine out from his oozing areas. His body burns him as it begins to tear itself apart. He hears Luna inside his mind. 'I may be dead, but you’re not living to gloat for too long about it, you son of a bitch!' The Demi-God explodes and shimmers away.
Two warriors were locked in battle. Good versus Evil playing out on the many platforms in Hell. Godlike speeds aided their movements. Dalincan’s rage and Lucifer’s determination fueled their strengths. Swords clashed, energy blasts were fired, and then a scream of pain erupts from one of their mouths. Lucifer kneels to the ground as Hellbreaker penetrates his abdomen. He looks up at Dalincan in shock and horror, dropping his own blade. “You actually wounded me.” He muttered, souls of the damned and ethereal blood flowing from his wound.
Dalincan looks down at him snarling. “I told you, Lucifer, that you would pay. Now, you die.” He slashes Hellbreaker across the remainder of Lucifer’s abdomen, slicing it completely open. The God of the Damned coughed up blood and fell backward. The struggle between good and evil was finally over. Lucifer was dead.
Dalincan, the Outer Realms’ Last Hope looked around him as the realms of the Damned and the Tortured began to dissolve. The souls of the damned becoming the souls of the saintly. He looked up as a white light surrounded him. “Mercenary Dalincan, you have done us well. Come and we will reward you greatly.” The voice of Arthos, King of the Heavens called down to him. He felt his body lift off of the ground as it was brought to the main room of Arthos’s Castle.
Arthos rose from his throne. “High Mercenary Dalincan, for vanquishing the one called Lucifer, King of the Damned, I will award you infinitely with riches and estates as I had promised you. Now, your reward waits, Dalincan. Come and accept it by shaking my hand.”
Dalincan looked at the hand of his employer with complete disgust. He smacked it out of the way. “Stick your money, old man. I have something else I want instead.”
The God looked at the half-Vampire shocked. He contemplated the change for a minute. “What is it you desire from me instead of unlimited riches.” He looked confused at his employee.
The Mercinary looked down, then back up at the God with tear-filled eyes. “I want the one thing that your money can’t buy. The complete restoration of my friends who aided me in the battle, and…” his voice broke off as he began to weep. “I want my wife restored to how she was before she died there as well, pregnant with our unborn child. All of them waiting for me back at Blood Rose Manor, our home.”
Arthos sighed as he processed the request. “Dalincan, High Mercenary, Unmatched Assassin, The Last Hope of Our Realms, your request has already been done. Go, and enjoy your life with your friends and family. Keep your power as an extra token, but you now have the ability to remove the necklace that unleashes it. If you are needed again, we will find you in your sleep and talk to you in your dreams. All of Heaven and Hell thank you most humbly for what you have just done.” He takes a bow and flicks his left wrist. Dalincan takes one good look around before he disappears from the Realm of the Saved.
He awakens in the living room of Blood Rose Manor. Everyone was standing over him, looking worried. He opens his eyes and sits up, surprised and happy at the same time. Fara was standing in front of him. She looked into his eyes and tackled him as she broke down crying. 'Baby, I’m so glad we made it! All of us made it!' She weeps into his shoulder. Dali embraces and holds her, 'Yes we did, Love. Now all the realms are safe once again. They have no more need for me at this time so I can continue living my life like I had before this all happened.' She hears him in her mind and sobs slightly harder.
Luna is standing to his left. She places a hand on Dali’s shoulder. “It was rough, but we pulled it off. I didn’t want to interfere, but I was given little choice, and Fara was killed in battle.”
Dalincan looked up at her. “You did your best, and I cannot thank you enough, my Sister. She's here now, we all are.” He smiles warmly.
Kaion stood off to his right. “You are indeed strong, Dalin. I need to train more if I’m going to become like you in strength and speed.”
He looks at the Werewolf and chuckles. “You know something? You may not be as strong as I am, but you have what you need, and that’s all you need. Keep training to make yourself stronger for yourself, not to rival me. Odds are you’d be dead long before you reach my level. It’s a good goal to shoot for. Keep striving to exceed your limits without pushing yourself too hard.” He places a reassuring hand on Kaion’s shoulder.
He rises, holding Fara steady. “I want to thank you all for being there to help me. I probably wouldn’t have done it without you. Now, anyone ready for a Dali-style barbecue?”
