So this was on Film4 last night, so I finally got to see it. Amazingly, Nick watched it too, even though I'd said I wasn't going to make him watch it and he said he wasn't interested - in the end he just couldn't stop being interested in what was going on on-screen.
Nick also enjoyed it, for one important reason - there were needles. Now, this doesn't mean that Nick is a secret needle fetishist - it means that he enjoyed seeing me squirming and covering my eyes for what's probably the first time during a film ever. Bastard.
But Audition is a strange film, and even with me knowing most of the plot we had problems following a lot of it, especially at the end where you can't tell what's a dream and what's reality. Without the extreme stuff it could also be a rather gentle Japanese rom-com of manners too, which is an interesting touch.
Unfortunately, after all the Asian films we've watched together, Nick is now convinced that every Asian film ever is sick and twisted and deeply scary. So now my aim is to have him watch the Japanese version of Shall We Dance?, just to prove otherwise.

It was a good thing that Audition had subtitles though, because about ten minutes into the film the probably gay couple next door decided to have a big screaming row. So our viewing experience was punctuated with hoarse screams of "Get out of my fucking life!" and "Don't you fucking lie to me!"
I hope they aren't going to break up. I like them, and I think they make a nice couple.
