Insomnia for Patriotic Reasons
I think I'm finally sleeping well again; unfortunately, I'm also going to bed rather late due to staying up to watch the Olympics.
After wrestling with whether or not I wanted to watch at all for a little bit (conclusion: we're supporting the athletes competing, not necessarily the policies of the host country) I threw myself full force into the watching of the thing.
I actually teared up doing three parts of the opening ceremony: 1) when I realized those were people inside those moving type blocks, 2) when they explained the story behind the nine year old that marched with Yao Ming during the parade of nations, and 3) during the lighting of the torch (I might have actually sobbed a little at this point). What can I say? I'm a total softie.
I've also been a knitting machine. As some of you (might) know, I have a place-holder etsy shop set up. My goal is to get a few things in there for the upcoming holiday season; however, I've been staring down a to-do list of various gifts for over a year now and the pile has gotten to the point of causing a sort of writer's block. I'm spending the Olympics working my way through my dusty, long-ignored to-do list so that I can get on with the new creations.
Having just gotten through an intense two day period of knitting/watching, it feels strange sitting here at my work desk now, contemplating spreadsheets and databases. Feels like my hands aren't doing enough, and no one has bothered to provide a play-by-play of my actions (or decided to roll a little clip about my parents and how they influenced my pursuit of ultimate office-monkeydom).
