Back to Basics

My "to do" craft list is getting a little bit insane... and when things pile up like this I often get frozen by the sheer volume.

So today I'm going back to the basics. I'm knitting a simple washcloth (the Peaches & Cream cotton ball band pattern from Mason Dixon Knitting). To make things more challenging (as if knitting with cotton isn't challenging enough for me) I'm doing this washcloth carrying the working yarn with my non-dominant hand. I can't remember which hand is which knitting style, but I'm normally a picker... since I'm planning on doing some multi-color work later this year, I thought I should practice throwing a bit. It's like I'm starting all over again! I'm so clumsy and slow... but I can tell that I'm getting faster with every row. Slowly.

I also have been watching embroidery tutorials on YouTube. I found this Stitch Dictionary just now and am pretty much set for embroidery how-to for the foreseeable future. I think what I want to do (Locher's style embellishment) is actually (relatively) simple. But some of the stuff I've seen in this stitch dictionary is really intriguing.

We had another immensely satisfying BSG night at our friend's last night - same group of folks as last week. I think we've fully relaxed into our shared geekery now (or maybe I just drank my margarita faster) and made the most of another "build up" episode. Next week we're going to try to host BSG Nite (pending babysitting arrangements) and will be putting together a mystical gluten-free pizza that The Mister has been concocting in the mad scientist's laboratory of his mind. It has a palak paneer base and will involve goat cheese. And did I mention the gluten-free part? I'm curious to see how this will turn out.
