The Mister and I did a madcap shopping spree at the local health food-ish/regular-food-ish/megalo-grocery store for All Things Vegan in anticipation of DarkityBro's arrival tomorrow... only we forgot to pick up the Tofurkey. Sheesh. So we're winging it. Mostly veggies and beans on hand and I'm sure we'll manage OK. DarkityBro is a pretty non-picky vegan-eater, but he does like to eat a lot so we might be making some supplementary grocery runs while he's here.
We didn't do much of anything else this weekend except see
Sweeney Todd at the local HD digital theater. I am a Johnny Depp fan, a Tim Burton fan, a fan of musicals, and especially a fan of Sondheim musicals so this was a given Good Movie Experience for me. But! The Mister, who is not at all partial to musicals also really, really enjoyed this film. In fact it is one of the top films (if not the top film) for him for this past year. The look of the film, the singing, the gore... all of it was at least as good as we expected if not even better. Definitely a must see! In fact, we might see it again when it hits the local brew 'n view.
To balance out the weekend, we watched "Blades of Glory" last night (at about one in the morning). It might have been the late hour, but it was pretty damn funny. I laughed until I couldn't breathe.
While at the megalo-mart, we grabbed a few sprigs of eucalyptus and some sort of evergreen (juniper maybe? there are berries all over these gnarly branches) to liven up the dining room. It is rather festive, but also smells a bit like pee. I'm melting an old 4FatCats gingersnaps tart (wonder if she's still in business...) to combat the odor. Now it's like festive holiday baking... and pee. :-\
Edited to add: The party Friday night was great! The Mister met and mingled and proved that he is not a figment of my imagination. We had a good time with everyone, managed to get rid of some of our super stinky pineapple mango salsa (just one clove of garlic... and yet it reeked), and came away from the White Elephant/Chinese Auction/Crazy-Assed Gift Exchange with a pretty neat gift (a framed, decorated "original artwork" of one of the guest's children, complete with artist's statement).
