Fic: Inception: "If Angels Fight...", Arthur/Eames, PG

Jan 23, 2011 00:47

New year, new 50k target at findyourwords. Aaaaaand new fandom. *headdesk*

For those waiting on the Stargate Spander fic: It's still coming, just slowly. My brain seems to have slipped back into drabble-gear, so I'm going to take advantage of that as much as I can and write snippets of the Spander whilst noodling around with my other boys as and when the fancy takes me.

And so, I introduce my new fandom: Inception. The movie could have been better, but the alluded to Arthur/Eames backstory wound itself around my slashy little heart and won't let go. Q: What can you do?

A: Write fic! And, because my Pookie was off enjoying herself in Hobbitland, I had nobody to talk me out of joining a Last Drabble Writer Standing comm in a fandom I've never written before. So, really, this is all her fault. *nods*

If Angels Fight...

Arthur froze in the office doorway, his glance bouncing from Ariadne's rapt expression to Eames's lascivious grin to the PASIV sitting open on the table between them.

"Eames, what have you done?"

"Nothing terrible, darling. Ariadne wanted to know when it was that you stole my heart. I decided it would be more fun to show than tell, so we went time-travelling."

"You forged me. Again. I keep telling you-"

"Your angelic youthfulness has to be seen to be believed, my love."

"Contrary to popular opinion-" Arthur glared at a gleefully unrepentant Eames, "-I wasn't twelve the first time we met. I was working for the government-"

"CIA," Eames whispered helpfully.

"-and I was old enough to recognise trouble when I saw it."

"I fell in love with you then and all you ever do is mock me for it."

Looking mildly curious, Arthur asked, "Was that before or after I shot you in the face?"

"The fourth time was definitely the charm," Eames answered, delighted, then turned to Ariadne. "They'd never worked with a forger before. I played at being a projection to see how long it would take them to find me. Eventually, Arthur got kicked to give the rest of the team a fighting chance. When they finally caught up with me, I woke to... a religious experience."

Ignoring Arthur's pained sigh, Eames leaned closer to Ariadne.

"Have you ever witnessed a solar eclipse? Watched the moon hang there in a dark sky in the middle of the day, wearing a magnificent stolen halo for one brief moment? Everyone should, at least once; it leaves you breathless. Waking to Arthur standing over me, those curls gloriously backlit, it was like he was my own personal fallen angel blotting out the sun. I opened my eyes and... fell."
