Holiday Summary Post

It's been a while since I posted here. I kind of can't believe that I didn't even make a Christmas Eve/Christmas/New Years post since I've done so for the past four or five years I've been on lj. Wow, when I was writing my last post, I had no idea I wouldn't post again until 2012. To sum up some things that have happened since my last post: I won NaNoWriMo for the fourth year (50,056 words yay!), went through finals week (which sucked but hey I made it through), and finished my first semester of college. To my immense satisfaction, earned all A's and I think one A-, so it appears my hard work paid off.

At any rate, I have been enjoying my winter break immensely. I had a few relaxing days at the very start, but otherwise the first part was very busy. My sister and I did the majority of the Christmas shopping and wrapping (we wrapped our family's stuff to extended family, our grandma's stuff to everyone, and our dad's stuff to our mom), so that was quite time-consuming. My sister also did a lot of baking, and we decorated. We actually didn't get our tree fully decorated until I think Christmas Eve, but it was huge and gorgeous, so it was worth it. Even though we had to fight through tangles of lights and then have them all redone, and the tree fell over at one point. At least not on top of anyone this time, though!

Christmas was kind of interesting. We had our younger cousin over from the night or two before, but most everyone else arrived at different times during the day. We opened our stockings early in the morning (surprisingly early for us kids- it was 8:30 or 9 am) but went for a walk with the dog in our pajamas and Santa hats for a while after that to kill time until breakfast (eggs benedict ftw- Christmas tradition) was done and/or our grandparents arrived. It was a bit of a mishap because for some reason I didn't feel my phone vibrating and we were out for about half an hour after our grandparents arrived, but no one could get in touch with us. We got back just in time for breakfast, though. It was delicious. We opened presents afterward, and our relatives from Colorado arrived at about two or three in the afternoon. We had a ton of presents for them and there were not a super ton for us, which is perhaps understandable because they flew over.

Let's see... notable presents include lots of movies/TV series, some new jackets, Skyrim (finally) and a super awesome hidden object game (which is like I Spy with a storyline and other puzzles, sort of) about Phantom of the Opera, and plenty of gift cards. I decided to use up some of my iTunes gift cards yesterday and wound up buying $40 worth of music, a majority of which was Disney music. Notable things I later got myself include a tweed coat, another plaid shirt, and two animated Batman movies that were really on sale at Best Buy.

Visiting Colorado relatives was... a little tiresome, to be honest. My uncle is super cool, but my aunt really shelters the kids and they seem kind of immature for their age. They kept whispering to their parents and raising their hands to talk. My older cousin is kind of weird, I don't really know how to describe it. Both of them, but especially the older one, would randomly come over and stare at my computer when I was playing games, and occasionally when I wasn't.

Anyway, it was mostly a relief when we just had the house to ourselves again and didn't have to cook or clean for people. I think we made the two hour drive to my grandparents' house three times within two weeks, which was also a little tiring. So for the last week I've just been chilling out. I'm starting to get to the point where I'm getting tired of being inside on my computer all day. So in a way I'm sort of excited for school to start back again (and because I'll get to see my friends, and because I'll have more privacy and time to myself again). I'm also sort of dreading it because I'll have homework and have to put up with my roommate more (and feeling a bit of peer pressure on certain things).

Oh, and for New Year's I actually did something this year. My sister and I drove out into the middle of nowhere to hang out with a few people we knew from theater. It wasn't really a party. We mostly hung out in his room, watched him play video games, and spent the majority of the evening playing truth or dare. By the end, everyone was picking dare and we were just getting our dares off an app I downloaded to my phone. But it was pretty fun.

So yeah, overall I've had a pretty good winter break.
