Today (well, technically yesterday) was my birthday! And, as in the year I was born, it was also Mother's Day. This year, it meant double the celebrations. We both opened presents this morning and ate out for brunch (at IHOP) and dinner (at Macaroni Grill). I probably have enough leftovers to last several days. In between, we looked at laptops and e-readers at Best Buy, went to the movies, and bought random stuff at Costco. I'm beginning to be convinced that an e-reader would actually be very convenient due to it meaning no more carrying around loads of books all the time (leaning toward the Kindle over the Nook due to its longer battery life and actual keyboard as compared to funky touch screen), and I might be getting one as a graduation present from my grandmother.
However, I have very mixed feelings about a new laptop. It would be nice to have something lighter, newer, and more portable with a longer battery life and it would be a pleasant fresh start for college. But on the other hand, my current laptop still works (apart from some minor power cord issues), transferring over files and programs is always a stressful hassle, and my sister could really use a laptop more than I could. I think someone stepped on hers, and it stopped working the other day, but my parents are hesitant to buy her a new computer because hers was still rather new and wouldn't have been damaged if she hadn't left it on the floor in her disaster zone of a room. I don't know, I don't think it seems quite right to make her pay for a new computer but buy me one as a present when my current computer isn't even broken. Or maybe she would get my old laptop. I'm a bit confused about the whole thing. Either way, I suppose I don't really need a new computer...
Also, I got approved for a shop at HH Flourish today! After realizing that there were several spots open for Hufflepuff shops, I embarked on a sigtag-making marathon on Friday and learned of my success in applying today, which was another nice little birthday present. The catalog is
here if you're interested.
By the way, the movie we saw was Thor. Despite knowing nothing about the character or backstory, I was quite excited for this movie. For one, it was directed by Kenneth Branagh, whose Hamlet I adore. Also, mythology yay! For a Marvel movie and part of the set-up for the Avengers movie, there were some very interesting fantasy elements with the whole Asgard plot. There was also a healthy amount of humor, though the 3-D was nothing amazing (we probably wouldn't have seen it in 3-D if it hadn't been at an opportune time). Once again, I was introduced to a rather cool comics character through the movies. I'm actually getting pretty excited for the Avengers movie at this point.
