The lovely people of the Hogwarts is Home and Platform 934 sorting community have decided that I should be sorted into Hufflepuff. I find this kind of fascinating, because I'd always pegged myself as more of a Ravenclaw. I'm insanely curious, smart in an obvious way (skipping a grade and taking lots of difficult classes), and kind of an enormous nerd. Most of the people I know, and especially the people who know me primarily from school, would probably put me in Ravenclaw. I think that if I were a character in the Harry Potter books, the Sorting Hat itself would likely put me in Ravenclaw, particularly if it had to sort me as I was at age eleven instead of the person I am now. However, I am completely fine with being sorted into Hufflepuff.
To be honest, I was a little surprised at first that most of the votes came in as Hufflepuff instead of Ravenclaw. I'd definitely expected a few Hufflepuff votes, as well as a couple Gryffindor votes, based on my application. I put a lot of emphasis on fairness (I think I used the word 'fair' at least three times and used it to describe one of my good qualities), but I also asked a lot of rhetorical questions and expressed my curiosity about many different things. Yet at the same time I was trying not to overemphasize my intelligence. And actually, I do have a lot of Hufflepuff traits. I really do value fairness and tolerance, I'm generally very honest, I'm a patient person (outwardly at least, sometimes I do end up freaking out inside my head but not mentioning it), I work hard at school and most other things, and I suppose I am pretty loyal. Also, I get tired of just being thought of as 'the smart girl.' I want people to realize that there is more to me than just my grades, so I might have been subconsciously making a point to put emphasis on qualities besides intelligence. Which, I suppose, goes to prove that choices really do play a part in being sorted, even by strangers on the internet instead of by a magical talking hat.
Anyway, Hufflepuff seems like it would be a really friendly place to be. Oddly enough, I've been getting Hufflepuff much more on the online sorting quizzes recently than I have in the past. I think it's about 50/50 Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff at this point. Which is interesting. Yes, this post is a bit long (particularly with the unrelated paragraph included below because I didn't want to make another post for it), but I have been literally planning it out since I started getting tons of Hufflepuff votes around Wednesday or Thursday and was trying to figure out why.
Completely unrelated, I spent most of Friday and half of Saturday in Portland, Oregon visiting Reed College, which was one of the two schools I had applied to but not visited. By the time we got home on Saturday, I was exhausted from the lack of sleep due to early flight on Friday and sheer amount of things to do after arriving. I sat in on a French class, spent twenty minutes rambling about myself in an interview, spent lots of time wandering around campus, listened to an admissions presentation, had lunch with current students and prospective students, and spent the night in a dorm room shared by more people than available beds. The class was fun, the students were interesting and quirky, and I was impressed by the combination of strong academics and a great campus community. Also, there was so much nature around campus and the buildings were beautiful... After dinner was a little boring because there wasn't anything to do until the hilarious improv performance at nine, but I wandered around with the other visiting students and talked. And the improv was totally worth it. The only things that I'm unsure about are the really heavy workload and whether there will be a lot of work and no play. It seems like not, but I did visit on a Friday instead of a weekday... But the Portland airport was awesome. There was a lack of fake palm trees and a bookstore that sold books I actually owned, and I bought two new ones as well. Also, there was a bus system that was on time and reasonably popular. Yay public transportation!
Gah, it was stupidly difficult trying to figure out the proper HTML for an image to go in a comment, but I did it eventually. Here is my signature tag for the sorting thing:
