Official End to the Holidays

So today was officially the end of visits from relatives. This time it was my grandpa's sister, her husband (who my sister has decided to refer to as Uncle Pistachio because he likes pistachios),  and my six-foot-something cousin who looks like Legolas. Fortunately, they didn't arrive until the afternoon, because we had to buy and wrap their gifts and cook dinner. First we stopped at the dollar store and got almost everything. Then we walked over to Safeway to pick up pistachios for Uncle Pistachio and something for Cousin Legolas. Unfortunately, the dollar store bag with the 'edibles' was a little flimsy, because it suddenly broke and dropped a jar of stuffed mushrooms on the floor of the aisle we were in. The jar broke and we got out of there pretty quickly. A few minutes later, when we were on the other side of the store, we heard over the loudspeakers "Wet clean up in aisle 15." It was pretty funny. Also, buying five things at Safeway cost more than buying almost twenty things at the dollar store.

Dinner was great, as all the relative-inspired dinners have been. And this time we had a working dishwasher to help with the cleanup! For some reason, visiting with these particular relatives seems to inspire long conversations at the table, because we spent almost four hours talking with them after we were done eating. It was nice, though, getting to visit with them.

Random unrelated side note: Now that I've actually read "The Lightning Thief," the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I want to see the movie even more intensely. I don't know why it looked so amazingly cool when I saw the first trailer. Maybe because it's by the guy who directed the first two Harry Potter movies and it's about Greek gods. I don't know. Fortunately, I don't have long to wait because it's coming out in February.
