Within Temptation + The 69 Eyes.
Well, that was a bloody good way to spend a Tuesday night. I swear The 69 Eyes are the spiritual successors of The Sisters Of Mercy. The drummer was utterly batshit insane to put it mildly and the general overall sleazy mix of the Sisters and Cult with that certain undefinable "Finnish" air made for a stonking set.
Within Temptation were a bit weaker than the last time I saw them, although this time around I was actually relatively sober. The mix just didn't quite seem to be there for me. This doesn't mean it wasn't a great set, it's just that I have very high standards for one of my favourite bands. I've been listening to them since I downloaded a few mp3s off the album "Enter" in 1997. Back then they were much more "metal" with growly vocals and a few operatic wails from Sharon over the top. Since that time they've really come such a long way stylistically, and Sharon's voice has matured beyond belief. One of the highlights for me was the fact they played a couple of older style songs including "Jane Doe" which satisfied my guilty pleasure of "Mr. Growly and The Wailing Bint" style of music.
All in all a fucking fantastic show, even if it did involve going to Brixton.
