February just gets better and better!

So last night I got home from work, was reading and such things, and noticed there was some plugging/muffledness in my left ear. Didn't think anything of it, I've had a bit of a cold lately and chalked it up to the sinuses. But then it got especially bad - with a throbbing pain included. I thought okay, this is weird, but went to bed, managed to fall asleep.

I woke up a few hours later because I was in SO MUCH pain. Sharp, shooting pain. I tossed, I turned, I cried a bit when the pains were especially stabby. I figured okay, I have an ear infection or something, got up and surfed the web as I couldn't sleep. Eventually I hear this weird roaring noise and intense pain for a second a few times, pain eases. Go back to bed (at like 6 AM), finally fall asleep, wake up to fluid on my pillowcase.

As I'm on like zero sleep and still feel crappy, I call in to work and head to Urgent Care. (I think it was honestly the first time I went to the doctor on my own, without it being paid for or discussed in-depth with my parents first.) My doctor was so great! He explained exactly how ear infections are caused, drew little pictures to explain things, told me I'd probably ruptured/perforated (not sure which) my eardrum which was good and let the fluid start draining out, and scheduled a follow-up to make sure my ear was okay (he couldn't tell if my eardrum had a major hole, or if my ear was just oddly shaped, which I appreciate him telling me.) He was very nice, and gave me different medication recommendations to choose from.

BTW, YAY INSURANCE! My ear drops were $16 instead of $138.

So...sorry for the novel, but it's just another not so good weekend in February for me.
