Owch, well at least its not a dead Miata. Speaking of VW's, Bunny's giving me his, thinking I might just use that while the jeep rests in the garage and gets it's whole deal sorted out.

Cool! Next thing ya know we'll have you rebuilding ZF and Allison Automatics and overhauling Detroit and Cat diesels.
Seriously though, thats cool that you have the courage to take a go at it yourself. I've been out of the retail end of my industry for 9 years now working for City of Toronto's fleet vehicles, but I cringe when I see the labour rate posted at my Hyundai dealer at $102.50 per hour. Glad I can do it myself too.
If you need any help or info, ping me online or feel free to call me at home as I'm sure you have the #. I can also access any Mitchell repair manuals at work for detailed pics and info.
Given the high miles on it, purchase a new tensioner kit for the timing belt as this is not a free wheeling engine if you loose the belt. Also when you assemble and time the engine, crank it over by hand a few times with a johnson bar to ensure that the marks come back correct with each revolution.

Arfs! Lemme know if I can be of any help!

"Kinda added insult to injury "

Oh man do I know about that kinda repair. How about spending what, to me, was a lot of money fixing the brakes. Then, only to have the transmission die a day afterwards. Lovely being able to stop and not be able to go. :) Good luck.
