I... I .... I was actually THIS far away from flunking it after the first two episodes. For one, because I'm just not much of an angst fan (I skipped through a few YAB scenes/EPISODES as well because all the crying was making me roll my eyes) and I feel like they're cutting out most of the fun stuff and just go directly for the crying. BOO Japan, BOO.
For the other, because in the first two episodes, Mio PISSED ME OFF. Grah! Like, I know I'm kind of uber-strict with the danso side of things recently, what with watching the professionals on a frequent basis. But SERIOUSLY. Yes, she blends in pretty well fashion wise, but she still ACTS EXACTLY LIKE A FUCKING NUN. She uses boku instead of watashi and THAT'S IT. Pronouns do NOT a man make, you silly girl! D: AND THERE'S NO POINT STUFFING RUBBER BALLS IN YOUR PANTS WHEN YOUR BOOBS LOOK LIKE THIS.
I'm sorry for the overblown pic, LJ will probably ignore the 50% html again UGH MAKE THEM GO AWAAAAY. D: (Yes, I know YAB had the same problem. That doesn't make it better.)
And yeah. I don't know, something about her general speech patterns and mannerisms just annoyed the heck out of me in the first two eps. It got better in the 3rd, thank god. I wonder if Minam would have pissed me off the same way if I understood Korean on the same level that I understand Japanese.
Maybe the Shu actor took a page out of Tamaki's book and measured out in what sideway angles his face looks best? ^^"
But... but... they're actually crying about important things now! No DRAMATIC COOKIES or SIGNIFICANT PIGGY FACES. I feel like the Ikemen characters are lot more down-to-earth and emotionally accessible. Even with the cracktacular premise, they feel like real people.
