FUCK YES.

The prison scene with Xiao Yue was my favorite. Bloody, dirty, defeated, but still thinking of her welfare. Oh hero.

I totally don't blame her for her one-sided crush - I mean, I would be crushing on him like a maniac myself (and OMG when he sort of collapses on her in the rain - incoherence!). He totally never thought he'd be getting out again.

The cool thing even though he totally hates Gao Lao now, when push comes to shove, I still think he couldn't kill him.

I agree. When XY was begging him not to hate him, I fully expected Xiao Chuan to say something like "I can't." He obviously still cares about him -- otherwise ZG's actions wouldn't rip him up so much.

I don't think XC is very good at hating - even near the end after various spoilery things happen, when push comes to shove he can't even commit to long-term effective hating even if he comes close.

The more I watch the more he skyrockets in my list of drama boyfriends. Who cares about little things like the plague?

He is just such a good guy, without being saintly, cloying, or boring. That's quite a feat.

Btw, if you want another Hu Ge drama, the other wuxia you've been recommended by me and others, LOCH2008, also stars him :P

Hook Man! How could I forget.

LOL, yes. Hook Guy is one of two main characters, Hu Ge is the other, a sort of medieval Forrest Gump only with awesome fight skills and a learning curve so he isn't Gumpish by the end :P

Totally not related btw, but how did you like Xiong Yu's crush on Xiao Yue? How ridiculously cute is it? With the hairpin stabbing and all!

LOL YES. THE HAIRPIN. "I want to leave it there so whenever it hurts, I'll think of you." SHOUNEN HERO ALL THE WAY.

He is so ridiculously shounen he needs his own manga.

Also, how do you eventually not get crippled by this? I know he is manly and all, but come on, Xiong Yu, use common sense - ask for a ribbon instead!

I imagine he has the same super-strength as self-stabbing Meng Tian. Seriously, with the way these warriors keep hurting themselves, how does Qin even function?

Maybe they are all masochists and can't get out of bed without a little self-hurt?

I think XY and MT were separated at birth :P

I'm so over-invested in this drama. I'm almost crying again. XC kneeling in the rain to save the nine girls, and then he wakes up and they've been executed anyway? How weary he was when he asked spy girl "What era is this, where someone can be grateful for a quick death?" God.

I was almost crying at that scene too.

It's just the waste of it all - he puts himself out in harm's way again, and sacrifices again, but this time it doesn't work in any way, and they are executed- the best he was able to get them was a quick death (it's even more futile than his sacrifice with the noble clan - there they all got tortured but at least they didn't all died, I am sure some of them survived - but the thing is, no matter how futile, he cannot not help). Yes, the bit when he asks the spy girl, with this sort of tired horror about how she could be thanking him - he is so amazing. He never gets used to the cruelty, ever.

And I found it so significant that it wasn't one of our usual bad guys doing this stuff - not Zhao Gao or anything. No, it was an ally, Meng Tian - the thing is, even the 'good guys' of this world are so steeped into the casual disregard of human life.

And now Meing Tian's forcing him to be his assistant general. It strikes me how Xiao Chuan never ever chooses these things, they just happen to him -- dropped into Fusu's den, becoming a palace guard, going to war -- he's strong-armed into these situations by people who want something from him (the emperor, his master, ZG, Meng Tian) and all he can do is react. When you look at it, the only times he's truly proactive are when he's trying to save someone, like curing Yu Shu's illness or going down for the clan. It makes my heart break for him. He seemed so relieved when he got out of prison and thought he was just a commoner again, with no responsibility and no one depending on him. Now he's being thrown right back in the fire.

Yes, the bit when he asks the spy girl, with this sort of tired horror about how she could be thanking him - he is so amazing. He never gets used to the cruelty, ever.

What I love is how he's clearly growing and taking past lessons to heart, even if he's still the same person with the same morals. XC of ep 6 tried to run away. XC of ep 14 was a drunk. But XC of ep 30 just copes -- tries to deal with all the shitty hands he's dealt the best he can.
