Am still wading through this season's dramas, but so far I've realized this year is like the Anti-Kawaii.
Wallflower: Sunako is a dark, morbid, death-obsessed weirdo with crazy asskicking abilities (my favorite is when Kame tries to cut her hair and she opens her mouth and SCREAMS and headbutts him in the face AHAHAHAHAHAHA).
Massugu na Otoko: Fukada Kyoko playing completely against type, dying her hair and crashing black-tie parties and happy to liberate anyone's money from them.
Magerarenai Onna: A practical, economical, career-minded heroine with the emotional capacity and social skills of Temperance Brennan on a bad day. "Smile!"
Chuno: An ex-slave turned runaway bride when she refuses an arranged marriage. Actually, she's still really pretty, I just love giving that character description. PWNED, MINAM! Feel the burn, Bella! What's that, Jandi? Oh, you're crying under the weight of being so much less awesome? It's okay, maybe you'll be reincarnated as something less useless. Like a kitchen sponge.
Tokujo Kabachi: I only saw this raw so I have no idea what's going on, but from the synopsis Horikita Maki is some kind of sexy, smoking, unscrupulous businesswoman?! YES.
There's also Pasta (heroine is an aspiring pasta chef), Pick the Stars (20something becomes single mother of five when her parents die in an accident), and I have high hopes for Jejoongwon, a period drama including a noblewoman character who wants to become a doctor... in 19th century Korea.
WHY SO AWESOME, ASIA. THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY HOURS IN THE DAY.
