The difference between Japanese and Korean dramas:

Jdrama: I am your favorite character.
Kdrama: I am your favorite character, and I will be brutally shot down by a dozen cops in the finale.

Jdrama: Life is pretty hard as a single mom!
Kdrama: Especially when your 7 year old daughter has AIDS.

Jdrama: I had a rough childhood. My parents were mean to me. ):
Kdrama: My father was framed for treason, murdered before my eyes, and publically drawn and quartered while I watched. Then my mother and sister were carted off as slaves, and I had to stone my mom for my own survival. I wandered, homeless and alone, stumbling through the various slaughters of school-age children, until I eventually suffered a psychotic break and lost my memory. Happy tenth birthday!

Jdrama: I am unhappy. I will cry single pearly tears at attractive angles.
Kdrama: OMG WHY ARE YOUR EYES GLOWING RED?? WHAT-- OMG STOP LIGHTING THE WORLD ON FIRE! NOT ON! NOT ON!

Jdrama: I'm in love with my sister!!
Kdrama: I'm in love with my sister!! And then I die.

Jdrama: Disney death! Ahahaha, faked you out!
Kdrama: ROCKS FALL, EVERYBODY DIES. EVEN HER. EVEN HER. HIM TOO. OH, AND ESPECIALLY HIM. Watch as Character A is stabbed and bleeding out, Character B dying his arms after killing Character C, because Character D died in front of her, having nothing to live for after Character E's tragic passing. Then Character F is killed in a fight with Character G, and the final fate of Character H comes down a THREE-WAY STAB -- a Mexican standoff with swords -- which leaves Character J the lone survivor, sitting heavily on the steps and choking on his own tears as the drama fades to black for the last time.

Yes, these are all real examples.

emotional trauma! fun for everyone!, korea you're on notice, beat me in the face with a hammer, i need a support group for this, masochism at its finest
