I've watched the first eps of both Maou and Mawang, and I can't decide which I like more! They're the same story with virtually identical scenes, but the way they're presented is completely different. For one, the jdrama takes subtle to a new level (Mawang seems to be about piecing together the devil lawyer's intentions and waiting for him to reveal his evil, while in Maou he's compared to Lucifer in his very first dramatically angled shot) but I love that it's so much more fast-paced, which is where the draggy kdrama lost me the first time around.
Even the styles are different-- Mawang does gorgeous things with deep, rich colors, while Maou is very much about the lighting, almost washed out in comparison, like everything's a distant picture (completely fitting for stalker lawyer).
I'm happy to report the gratuitous nudity is unchanged.
At this point, Joo Ji Hoon hasn't done much, so Ohno wins for evil and style. Black leather gloves leaving no fingerprints, and carefully orchestrated frame jobs so he doesn't get his hands dirty for his own murder. He sends his victim a knife through the mail-- and eventually has him killed by it. When the police stand around the body and discuss how awful it is, Ohno visits a church.
I love a villain with massive balls.

Wasn't this a brilliant bit of casting? They could be wide-eyed unearthly sisters.
THESE SCENES WERE COMPLETELY RELEVANT TO THE PLOT. We should be grateful for such understanding producers, giving us these character-defining moments.
I love that the lipgloss is an identifying factor in flashbacks. XD
"Have we met before?"
One thing both actors nailed: they can be having normal, civil, even pleasant conversations with the people around them, and their eyes are completely emotionless.
Isn't that FREAKY? But even scarier:
Their "everything is okay, I am a normal member of society" expressions are even more chilling than their deliberately creepy ones. It's the eyes. Ohno's are so bright and clearly screaming fake, fake, fake. Joo Ji Hoon's don't have anything at all.
Look at their apartments. Clean and empty. No personality at all.
RAIN. WHY AREN'T THEY IN IT? It's like they deliberately cheated!
