people expect people to do things. We all have our role to fill, but each person believes they know what the role of everyone else in their social environment should fill. So, when someone does something outside of their perscribed role, the change in environment leads to a desire to get back to the "way things 'should' be". There is a normal human belief that most change is bad, unless you can convince yourself that it is progress, like in technology. When a PERSON changes, one is trended to believe something bad has happened or specifically their opinion of you is changed. This comes from a human trait to analyze the surroundings and the approach a change as something bad, this possibly could be traced back to the days when a neanderthal had to be watchful of his surroundings to see for slightest hint of predator. This is a habit to be squashed.
