Summer’s Here

May 04, 2009 14:23

And here’s another selection of Five Other Things. I know I promised every two blogs but it’s kinda becoming more apparent.

1: Personal Life

Christenings are a head wrecker for parents, so luckily I’m not one of them but I am an uncle and for an hour I was at the church on Saturday for my niece’s christening. Yesterday I went out to a party for a boyfriend of a family friend’s. It was fun but I will hopefully attend better ones during the summer.

2: Reviews For The Rest Of 2009

Turns out I will be doing plenty of them. First of all, there’s catching up on the Buffy/Angel comics and sometime in June, I’ll try and review the movie for the former (finding it would be a fine thing). I also really want to review the original pilot for Being Human, do DVD reviews for Skins, retro-reviews for The Sarah Jane Adventures and there’s also Torchwood’s shorter third season and there’s some Doctor Who (along with The Waters Of Mars and the last two specials) serials that’ll get done somewhere in between then. Any involving the Master though will be left until November/December. I am also tempted to take on Dollhouse/True Blood/Merlin but not sure if I will.

3: Editorships

The last one I snagged was David Tennant back in October, so it’s nice to have gotten another one after seven months. Needless to say, it involves an actor from a certain verse. Julian Bleach, the most recent of actors to play Davros. I’ll keep making submissions and retain the editorships I have because I’m not vying for any more.

4: Weather

It varies. Right about now it seems to be okay, warm but slightly chilly. Okay, the weather doesn’t fascinate me but it does become more noticeable during certain times in the year.

5: BAFTAS

As per usual, a lot of shows won against the popular choices and certain viewers or newspapers rushed to point that out. I don’t give a fig. Most of these ceremonies are wall to wall backside crawling anyway.

Ashes To Ashes - 2x02: Episode 10

Solid second episode.

- Ray certainly seemed all too happy to go up against that Romany Tribe.
- Gene as a stone mason? Yeah, right. Liked that he views himself and Alex as a team though.
- Alex struggling to remember Molly’s name/face is worrying. And there was Tyler references.
- MacIntosh is trouble. He certainly had it in for Alex this episode.

Review for this episode is up now. Blog version is also available on my Blogspot address. Episode 11 airs Monday at 9pm on BBC1.

Brothers And Sisters - 3x17: Troubled Waters Part 2

Excellent second part.

- Ryan popping up at the end was interesting. Note the looks on Justin and Rebecca’s faces.
- Robert nearly died and he still can’t give himself time to recover? What an idiot. Anyone else would’ve listened to Kitty and Kevin.
- Holly wasted no time in shopping Tommy. The desperation comment reeked of hypocrisy coming from her.
- We could've gotten more Kevin/Scotty moments though.

Review for this episode is up now. Blog version is also available on my Blogspot address. Taking Sides airs on More4, Thursday at 11pm (ER double bill).

Dexter - 3x02: Finding Freebo

Things are heating up nicely with this show.

- Dexter spent more time debating on fatherhood rather than telling Rita what he wanted.
- Yuki seems too desperate to get Deb as an informant. Both Quinn and Anton seem interested in Deb.
- Dexter got caught killing Freebo by Miguel. Uh-oh.
- Some really nice moments with Harry, Maria, Angel and Masuka.

Review for this episode is up now. Blog version is also available on my Blogspot address. The Lion Sleeps Tonight airs Friday 10pm on FXUK.

Heroes - 3x24: I Am Sylar

Sylar has another identity crisis.

- The scenes with him flashing into Virginia were a little silly. Really not sure why Micah’s so eager to help him though.
- Hiro and Ando are at least making an effort with taking down Danko. The Parkman stuff was fine too.
- Lots of people got caught in the end of this episode.
- Serves Sylar right that he’s suffering effects of shape-shifting.

An Invisible Thread airs next Monday, 9.45pm on BBC3.

Desperate Housewives - 5x20: Rose’s Turn

A strong episode, slightly moving things forward.

- Though it didn’t make too much sense, at least Susan told Dave about her involvement in the car accident.
- Katherine’s reveal to Mike was lame. Mike looked worried too.
- The Gabby/Lynette/Carlos/Tom friendship plots certainly were the highlight of the episode.
- Bree is gonna have to play dirty if she wants to get rid of Orson.

Review for this episode is up. Blog version is also available on my Blogspot address. Bargaining airs Tuesday at 9.55pm on RTE2.

Robin Hood - 3x06: Do You Love Me?

Interesting episode .

- Still liking Isabella a lot more than Kate.
- Prince John I’m not too sold on just yet but there’s potential.
- Guy is back to his devilish best as well.
- Not really much else to go on really.

Too Hot To Handle airs Saturday at 6.10pm on BBC1.

The L Word - 6x06: Lactose Intolerant

Very good episode, only two left.

- Aren’t I glad that Max’s favourite movie wasn’t Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
- Thanks to Jenny’s big mouth, Dylan found out about Helena’s little test.
- You don’t need to be a genius to see where the Alice/Tasha/Jamie thing is headed.
- Bette and Kelly got caught by Jenny (though they did nothing). More trouble with Bette and Tina on the horizon then.

Last Couple Standing airs Tuesday 10pm on Living2.

The Week In Who (Contains Spoilers)

- Filming for the specials will finish up on May 22nd.
