Anger (Daniel, Dragonetti, Peter)

Oct 19, 2009 08:18

Daniel had fallen asleep with the book on his face, though he was awake and in his gym by the time Dragonetti returned, along with several of his flunkies. That was for the best. If Dragonetti had caught him sleeping underneath a book, he probably would not have been kind about it. He was sure that was some kind of sloth. Instead Dragonetti found him on the parallel bars, his knees over one bar, his ankles under the other. He was hanging upside down off of them and curling upwards to keep his abdominal muscles in the incredible shape they were in.

Dragonetti smiled from the door. He was a warrior, and he could often be found in the gym doing much the same thing. He, however, didn't have to do it alone. "Brother Daniel?"

Daniel jumped and the parallel bars rattled. He let his body go limp so his hair was hanging down so far it touched the floor. "Alessandro," he murmured in greeting. "You startled me."

Dragonetti could have uttered something about Daniel's solitary life, but he did not. He appreciated the sacrifice this man had made so he himself did not have to. Being the guardian of this place...it had to be all-encompassing and trying every step of the way. "My apologies Brother Daniel. We have come to question your prisoner."

"Of course." Daniel gripped the bar and unhooked his ankles. Then he gracefully rolled through his arms until his feet were on the floor. He was momentarily dizzy when he straightened up as all the blood rushed back to where it was supposed to be. It passed in moments. "I'll just need to put on my robe. Pardon me."

Dragonetti nodded and he let Daniel disappear past him. When the man reappeared, hood in hands and properly attired, Dragonetti gave him a small smile. "We are lucky to have you, Brother Daniel. And how is our prisoner fairing?"

"The same as he was yesterday," Daniel answered, trying to keep his annoyance out of his voice. "I know you want to ask him some questions, but I think you'll find he'll be better placed to answer them if you were to give him something to eat. I'm not entirely sure he'll be in a state to give you any information..."

"Ah, Brother Daniel." Dragonetti shook his head sadly. "He is playing a Devil's trick on you. The man doesn't require sustainence like we do."

Daniel did not look convinced, and well he was not. "Did Jesus not suffer in the desert for forty days and forty nights."

"Are you comparing that creature to our Lord and Saviour?" Dragonetti asked, his eyebrows rising in a dangerous way which made Daniel check himself immediately.

"Only by way of saying that whatever else they may be, they are also human. They were born on this Earth, given life by human parents. And I believe that while Peter Kemp may not perish from lack of food, he will still suffer for it."

"So let him!" Dragonetti growled. "Let his suffering be the penance for the Devil's temptation of Jesus!"

Daniel decided this was getting nowhere and he simply bowed his head in compliance before donning his hood. He led Dragonetti and the few others who had joined them down to Peter's cell. When he opened it and turned the light on, he was pleased to note that he could find no trace of the cigarettes and lighter he had left for his cousin. Peter was resting on his bed, though he lifted his head and blinked wearily in their direction. He did, however, look like he was proving Dragonetti's theory that Peter didn't require food. Dragonetti had no way of knowing Peter had been fed since arriving here. Damn.

"Kemp," was Dragonetti's only contemptuous greeting of Peter. "Stand up."

Peter groaned, but he managed to stand shakily, his arms wrapped around his skinny body. "Thought you weren't coming back."

"That was before we recieved some rather fascinating information. Peter Kemp, do you know where your wife is?"

Daniel watched Peter carefully, but the man continued to look terribly confused. If any horror was dawning on him now, he didn't show it. Daniel, for one, was glad he was concealed beneath his hood. He was horrified. He had thought these questions would be about Dead Meat, not Peter's wife. He didn't know anything about her, but if Dragonetti did, this was bound to be bad.

"I...assume she's at home, worrying herself silly," Peter replied, glaring daggers at Dragonetti. "And she'll be well protected."

"Don't threaten me, Peter Kemp. You are hardly in a position to be doing so. I have recieved a very interesting report that you wife is here, Peter. And not only that, but that you happen to be married to a Heavenly Being. You were keeping a naughty secret, Peter."

Peter had gone dangerously pale and he shook his head quickly. "No."

"Where is she, Peter?"

Daniel was grateful Peter didn't look like he was pleading with the assembled men to see which one was his sympathetic helper. Daniel didn't feel like another visit to the workroom for aiding and abetting the Antichrist. That would be his second sin and he wouldn't just be punished, he would be punished and burned.

"She's not here. She wouldn't come here!" Peter didn't sound like he believed it, he simply sounded horrified that she would come anywhere near this place and these people.

"Peter Kemp, I urge you to be straight with us. Your wife is a Heavenly Being and you have led her away from her purpose here. You are the worst kind of filth and she will need us to help her be redeemed."

Peter shook his head, his entire being one of utter dismay. "No. No, you're not going to touch her."

"Where is she, Peter!?"

"I DON'T KNOW!" Peter screamed, his voice echoing off the walls of the cell over and over again. "And even if I did, I wouldn't tell you." Daniel had to respect Peter's bravery. That was sure to piss Dragonetti off.

Sure enough, Dragonetti signalled his men. Daniel closed his eyes as Dragonetti's flunkies stepped forward and released Peter from his chains which bound him to the wall. They dragged Peter, kicking and screaming, from his cell and Daniel knew very well where Peter was headed. Dragonetti turned to Daniel and he pulled off his hood. "Ah, the work just doesn't end."

Daniel pulled his hood off as well and he nodded. "I can see that. I didn't know he was married. It seems...strange. Like a normal human."

"That man is a pillar of deceit," Dragonetti hissed. "In the end, he will tell me where she is. He doesn't care about her well-being, he just wants to have her for himself. When he can see he will gain nothing by hiding her, he'll tell me her whereabouts."

Daniel nodded and he returned to his room, sincerely hoping that Dragonetti was wrong.
