There was not much else choice in where to meet up this evening. All of Kait's stuff was at her father's house, and it was fairly easy for everyone she expected to get there after their school/other obligations. Her own discomfort at having Renee step into her own father's house after all this time nonwithstanding, it was the perfect place for this meeting of artistic talent and introductions to take place.
Now she only had to wait around the palour until they would show up. Scarlett, Pierre, Renee. So much a part of her past and present.
Scarlett was psyched. She's just come from a very good practise session with Entropy- in which she felt she had rather rocked the party that rocked the party- and now was on her way to her glorious girlfriend's house to meet other glorious people whom she only knew by name. Yeah. Good day.
She reached the house and went around the side, sweeping in through the French doors into the parlour with a dramatic toss of her hair and a bright smile. "The quality has arrived!"

The smile that overcame Kait's face was instantaneous, as was her swishing walk in full length skirt across to where Scarlett had entered. The other girl's high mood was contagous.
"Well, something has arrived, in any case," Kait replied smartly. "What has gotten you in such a wonderful mood this afternoon, my sweet?" She took Scarlett into her arms for a snog. Her father was out. They had the house to themselves and the few servants who worked into the evening until at least 10pm.

"I'm in a wonderful mood because I am in your arms of course." She grinned and then rolled her eyes at her own silly comment. She kissed her again- mmm Kait lips, lips of Kait- and then looked around the room. "Anyone else here yet or is it just your sparkling self?"

"Just my sparkling self." Kait grinned. Then she shrugged and answered more seriously, "You are of course early. As always. They are not expected till a little later. I think Pierre needed to go do something back at their house before he and Renee doubled back over here?" Again, a shrug.
"Did you want something to eat?" The question started as a serious one, and but for the mischievous glint that crept into Kait's eyes, it could well have stayed that way.

"Hmmm," she pondered and let her eyes slip down the other girl's body. "I don't know. I'll have to think about it a little more." She pouted her lips at Kait. "Kiss me while I think."

"Oh, well when you put it like that..." Kait turned away as though to not indulge her girlfriend's wants. She laughed in enjoyment of their moment. "Is this anything at all like when I used to kiss you to stop you from talking?"

Scarlett pulled away, turning her back with a flick of her hair, and smirking seductivly over her shoulder. "I'm going to raid the kitchen."

As the redhead sauntered away, Kait glanced at her teasingly and called out, "You're welcome," in reference to the food Scarlett was about to consume. For someone that thin, the girl could certainly eat!

Scarlett's head appeared around the corner of the door frame just as Kait was about to get up and follow her.
"On second thought... don't suppose I'd be able to grab a shower if the others are still gonna be a while before getting here?" she asked. Then the rest of her came around to lounge on the door frame and her eyes pinned Kait. "I would allow you to watch, you know."

Feeling her eyes flicker in reaction, Kait tried to maintain a neutral fascade but Scarlett's knowing look scrapped all reason for that. Her jaw tightened stubbornly.
"Perhaps I don't want to watch," she uttered daringly.

Red lips pouted. "Not even if I'm parading around in one of your towels?" Scarlett asked, her voice growing sultry as she added, "In only your towel?"

"Even then," Kait replied, gritting her teeth to keep the mental image of Scarlett's dripping wet and half naked body from her mind. She already knew too well for fact exactly what that looked like. "Besides, we don't know exactly when the others are going to arrive here... and I really do need to get this photography folio together for next Wednesday." Her voice took on a slight pleading quality as she said this.

Scarlett pouted. "aaaalright." She sighed. "You work on that and I'll shower quickly. Entropy practise made me all sweaty." And without another word she darted off down the hall toward where she knew the bathroom was.

The lie bothered Renee, but she still felt that it was necessary. Pierre kept giving her disapproving looks. He thought it was stupid, them hiding their destination like this. But she just wasn't ready to tell Deirdre yet. Maybe after today, after having met Scarlett, things might be easier. Those final fantasies might fade, allowing her to be at peace with this... Renee and Deirdre, Kait and Scarlett. Renee and Kait no more.
It still seemed so strange that after all this time, the separation and wondering, Kait lived not more than a ten minute walk away from her and Deirdre. That odd sensation, the anticipation combined with the irrational fear that it was all a dream, that she would knock on that door and Kait wouldn't be there, would never have been there, didn't seem ready to go away any time soon. For someone who prided herself on being so together, the edges of Renee's sanity did seem to be fraying somewhat easily of late.
Pierre was getting more excited as they approached the house, his disapproval giving way to a pure and honest excitement at finally seeing his friend again. He was going on incessantly about his memories of Kait, to which Renee was only half listening. She knew all these stories by heart, anyway.
Taking a deep breath, hoping that perhaps Scarlett wouldn't be here yet, that they would have a few moments alone before... whatever this experience turned out to be. Just a few moments with Kait to collect herself, let some of this anxiety fall away...
She rang the doorbell.

Kait jumped at the computer she had been talking to Scarlett who was just now 'secretly' upstairs now after her shower. She wrote a quick message - "I think Renee and Pierre just arrived" - before shutting down the computer and moving towards the front door.
The fact that they had come to that door and rung the doorbell so formally said louder than anything that this would be the first time Renee had ever been to this house.
Her father's house.
It would be okay.
Kait took a deep breath into her lungs and wished Scarlett was already back down stairs with her, holding her hand, so as they could come to greet Renee and Pierre together. Damnit, it had been Scar's greatest idea that she and Renee meet after all!
Opening the door with a smile, Kait found herself immediately taken into Pierre's arms with a bear hug from old. "Oh, it's been too long!" Kait murmured into his large shoulder, then glanced over at Renee and reached out her hand for her to take.
"Hey."

I think Renee and Pierre just arrived.
She made a small noise of surprise and darted back toward the bathroom to grab the towel and finish drying herself off. Hurry up, Scarlett! Hurry up! Her own clothes were out of the question- smelly and sweaty and the whole reason she even wanted a shower- and she darted across the hall once again into Kait's room and pulled open the closet. "Sorry baby," she said and pulled out a white summer dress, "but I wanna make a good impression." She pulled the white dress over her head and ran her fingers through her long wet hair.
And then it was time to make her way back downstairs, barefooted and damp, looking like some hippy child no doubt.

"Far too long," Pierre agreed, stroking Kait's hair. He stepped back a little, but still held his hands on her waist, taking her in with his gaze. If anything, she was even more beautiful than she had been back then. She reached out her hand to Renee, and he stepped aside, allowing them to greet each other.
"Hey" Renee replied with a small smile. She took Kait's hand in hers, then kissed her cheek. Scarlett was nowhere to be seen. That was a relief. She squeezed Kait's hand, knowing that at least for the moment she could do such a thing without guilt.
Ever impulsive, Pierre stepped inside. He was always good at feeling at home in other people's places. Still, his impeccable politeness always meant that he never overstepped his bounds. He spun around on the spot, taking in the beautiful, high-ceilinged hallway. The whole place was just so gorgeous and open.
"You surround yourself with beautiful things, beautiful girl," Pierre smiled. "Just look at the two beautiful people you just let into your house!"

"Not to mention that Scarlett is just upstairs." Kait rolled her eyes. "She has this utterly terrible way of usually being early. Makes me look quite often bad, and you know how I hate that." She paused and grinned. "God, Pierre, how I have missed you!"
She smiled to make them both welcome, then closed the door once they were both inside, her eyes lingering momentarily on Renee.
"Scarlett?" she called out curiously. "Did either of you two want anything to drink? I suppose you don't want to get straight into the art right away?" she asked both Pierre and Renee.

Scarlett made her way down the stairs, trying not to make two much noise and heared Kait call her name and then speak more quietly to someone else. When she emerged into the parlour she saw Kait and the other two. Renee was...well, stunning. Damn. She had hoped, in the back of her head, that she'd be hidious even though she knew she wouldn't be. Scarlett smiled brightly at both of them and walked over to Kait and took her hand. "Hey sweetie," then, addressed to the other two. "Hi, I'm Scarlett."

Pierre almost did a cartoon double-take as Scarlett descended the stairs. He had seen photos of the girl, but in person, she was something else again. She walked with the ease of one who knew she had a drop-dead gorgeous body, and knew how to use it as well. Her fiery hair suited her passionate personality, and her beautiful yet strong features would have turned just about anybody's head. Kait was a very, very lucky girl.
"Enchantez, mademoiselle," Pierre said with a bow, taking Scarlett's free hand and kissing it. The kiss wasn't just for his benefit - he figured he was probably going to be the least emotionally effected by this meeting out of the four of them, and hence the best candidate for ice-breaker.
"Scarlett, my lovely companion Renee," he introduced her, sliding an arm around his long-time friend.

Up until now, Renee had been speechless. Scarlett was a bombshell, both in good-looks and in the impact she had on Renee's heart. Part of her, the part that had moved on, was ecstatic that Kait had found such a vibrant, beautiful woman to share her life with. The other was crushed, unable to think anything except how much more gorgeous this woman was, and how inadequate Renee herself must seem as a lover by comparison. How could she have ever thought she could hang on to Kait, when there were girls like Scarlett who could actually hold a candle to her looks?
Pierre was introducing her. Goddess, she had to say something. Scarlett was looking directly at her, eyes twinkling, a smile lifting the corners of her lips. She seemed warm, unthreatened, maybe even completely unaware of any of the things Renee was feeling.
Forced into action, she tried her best to smile warmly and extended her hand to Scarlett. "Hello, Scarlett. It is... good to finally meet you."
Distantly, she heard Pierre asking Kait for a couple of lemonades. Goddess, don't let them leave her alone with Scarlett yet...

Kait had smiled and briefly leaned towards Scarlett as she had joined the rest of them, before the redhead had floated towards Pierre who had of course shown his most charming self to her immediately. She had flashed a quick grin at her old friend that had been immediately reciprocated.
Poor Pierre, it seemed as though all his best looking girls were gay. They really did need to find him a nice, straight girl somewhere along the line.
Then most of those thoughts had been dashed away as Kait had looked into Renee's eye and seen... she didn't know what exactly she'd seen. Renee had worked quickly to mask whatever it was that she had felt as Scarlett had walked into the room.
Her smile slipped ever so slightly as Scarlett and Renee introduced. She wondered if the 'finally' in Renee's sentence was supposed to be pointed, or just a word she used to fill in the sentence, like she was sure 'good' had been.
"What?" Kait blinked as Pierre appeared at her arm asking for lemonade. That was right, she had offered drinks. "Oh, of course. Just this way." She led them all towards the kitchen, mentally musing on what this night would be.

The tension among the ground was making Scarlett slightly uncomfortable but she pushed it away, espeically since none of the nervousness she felt- or not much of it anyway- belonged to her. She was actually starting to feel surprisingly glad about this meeting. She looked at Renee as they walked into the kitchen. "I've heard so much about you, Renee," she told her, her smile bright and honest. "I was thinking Kait might try and let me not ever meet you but that would have been a pity. You have the most beautiful accent. I love it." She stopped herself and bit her lip, embarrassed. "I'm babbling, aren't I?" A small blush covered her cheeks. "Oh, this is embarrassing and I've only just met you both."

Despite herself, Renee blushed as well at Scarlett's compliment. At least she seemed nice... more than nice. Scarlett was really trying to make her feel more comfortable. The least she could was to try to relax.
"Thank you," she said, smiling. She had thought she would have to force it, but the expression came surprisingly easily. Was it because of what Scarlett had said, that she had heard so much about her? It did make her feel better, that she was good enough to be a topic of conversation between the two, even now...
What was she thinking, anyway? Thoughts of inadequacy did not become her. She tried to push them away as best she could. Kait deserved that much, at least. Not to mention Scarlett, whom Renee kept reminding herself had not done anything wrong, to her or to anybody else.
"You've nothing to be embarrassed about," she said. "I'm nervous too."
Goddess. Had she just admitted nervousness to this woman? Would Scarlett think she was a stupid little girl now? Bloody hell... was she actually trying to impress Scarlett? At that point, Renee really had no idea what the hell was going on with her head...

Scarlett let out the breath she didn't realise she'd been holding and smiled again. "That's kind of a relief to know." She looked at Kait. "See, sweetie? I'm not being horrible and embarrassing." At least I don't think I am.
She still felt a little self concious standing in the kitchen with them too. Her hair still damp and dripping down her back- Oh god, this better not be turning see through on my arse!- and a dress that was made for Kait's slighlty slimmer and less busty figure made her feel exposed. But she smiled brightly anyway and walked over toward the fridge. "Lemonade for all," she said, bending down to get the soft drink bottles off the bottle fridge shelf. "...Except me. I want coke."

"Not too much, anyway," Kait replied glibly, poking her tongue out in responce. Though, truth to tell, she was as glad of Scarlett's presence here as she had thought she would be. The fact that she had gone to the trouble of making sure that Renee was comfortable here meant... more to her than words.
"Help yourself," she murmured. "All of you, please. We have more than enough."
To Scarlett, she leant close and said, "Nice dress, my dearheart."

"No, it is up to me to be horrible and embarrassing!" Pierre laughed. He enjoyed Kait's increasing expression of horror as he continued. "Scarlett, you and I must swap stories, you know what she has been doing here, and I know many of the embarrassing stories from France! We can be like the parents who tell childhood stories for everybody's woe!"
He turned and winked at Kait. She was just so much fun to tease! Even Renee was grinning a little, which was what he really wanted to see anyway...

Scarlett flushed the same colour as her name and hissed, "oh god," under her breath. She smiled overly brightly in the direction of the two French people. Hi, sorry I'm all wet and whorish. Lovely to meet you all. Bloody dress. She laughed softly. "This is the last time I borrow my girlfriend's clothes, anyway." She went for demure and hope it covered up at least some of the 'OH MY GOD' she was feeling.

"Isn't it just terrible having big boobs?" Renee said. Although she was trying to be laugh, it still came out as more of a nervous chuckle. Scarlett's lovely figure was still somewhat daunting. It was only natural, she supposed. Most, if not all ex's probably felt this way when they met the new woman. She just hoped she didn't sound crude.

Immediately feeling bad for her softly spoken side comment, Kait read the emotions that flickered through her girlfriend's mind straight after.
"The dress looks lovely on you," she was quick to assure Scarlett. "Although," and she glanced at the cup size currently in that dress, "I fear you may have ruined it for any further dress use of mine."
She smiled to show that she didn't mind, offering her a hug from behind in support. "You can shout me drinns the next time I show up for one of your gigs."

Scarlett poured herself a coke- don't drink from the bottle. You've been spending too much time with boys, Scarlett- and took a sip from the glass, tucking her hair behind her ears. This was silly. She was being overly embarrassed. She'd worn sluttier things than this out clubbing. Was this just because these were new people? Because this was THE Renee? Maybe.
Scarlett put on her bright smile and directed it on everyone else. She was a drama student and a natural born stage performer. So she pulled up all her Entropy-found confidence and beamed. "Can I pour you both some lemonade then?"
(Reply to this)
[info]juniper_berries
Lemonades were poured. Kait glanced at Scarlett with the amused knowing how much she had refrained from drining out of the bottle as she so often otherwise did.
"So..." Kait spoke to Renee, "Did you want to take a look at the stuff I was thinking to put together in my presentation folio? I've got some of it set out in the parlour already."

Kait's simple invitation cleared away a lot of the remaining nervousness Renee was feeling. This was something she was good at... excelled in, even. And despite the fact that Kait had the advantage in years over Renee, it had always been the French girl who had taken the lead in the dark room... in more ways than one.
She smiled, the expression far more relaxed and real now. "Yes," she said. "I would love to see your work."
"They are geniuses," Pierre smiled to Scarlett as the two girls moved into the parlour, drinks in hand. "They create many beautiful things together."

[info]juniper_berries
Comfortably sure that Pierre would ensure that Scarlett didn't feel on the outer because of this, Kait let Renee to where her work was set out.
"There's a dilemma on which order to put these three in particular," Kait said, pointing them out, "And then these two seem to tell a story, but maybe that one's better to tell the whole thing by itself. And there are so many compositional elements I could use here that I just don't know which way to go with it..."
Kait cut herself off, aware that she had begun to babble. It wasn't that she was unsure of her work, more that she had so many ideas of what to do with them all, and as ever, was unable to see which would be the best way to suit this specific occasion.
