Distract me while I try to avoid focusing on tomorrow plz..

It’s a little upsetting that I’m seriously procrastinating on actually completing my final projects for my computer art class-considering our final is simply to turn in two digital pieces of our own making, in our own style, of whatever the hell we want to do. I had a drawing that I intended on scanning in and coloring; however, I LOST MY FUCKING TABLET PEN!! yarrgh. So instead of freaking out over cranking out some completely new piece, I’ve just been digging through all my old art folders, seeing what I can dig up from the grave and turn in tomorrow as my final project.

I found this:

The piece I’m turning in tomorrow is more of less completely the same, I just added in a grey background with a slight yellow gradient. I don’t feel that bad, actually, as I’m really quite proud of this piece. It’s probably one of the first drawings I ever did in photoshop, back when I still lived at the Woods. I really dig the somewhat creamy texture of the skin and fabric tones, and wish I could get my crap to look like this more often. I also am proud of the fact that the above character actually looks like he’s asian. For me, I’ve always found it bizarre and ironic that the iconic ‘manga’ look, of the giant, orb-like eyes couldn’t really be further from the realistic look of cultures it originated from, and that, because of my manga up-bringing, it was near impossible to draw an individual who looked as though s/he hailed from the Orient.

It was a personal landmark for me, as strange and stupid as it sounds, to actually accomplish a truly ‘asian’ look in a character, because when I first began drawing, I relied heavily upon manga influences to figure out what the hell I was doing, and thus, I could not draw a convincing asian for the life of me. So here, for me, this represents a real break-away from those heavy manga influences that I’ve been trying to shed for a long time. I will not deny that there is still, certainly, a manga influence to my cartoon style, but I want it to be different. And, quite frankly, the vast majority of manga out there is just earth shatteringly boring. Presently, a manga has to have a really good damn plotline to keep me interested, because the general, standardized art look is such a visual turn-off.

Psst... and plus, ITS FUCKING LENNOX!!

booyah!!, i shit art, sally onward, nostalgic moments
