At the hospital I discovered another use of second hand smoke. I already like being around it occasionally to quell cravings from quitting cold turkey a month or so ago, but today! Today! Important discovery! Hanging around Mom while she goes into the hospital smoking area (an enclosed space with air filter vents), I realized that quitting in early pregnancy probably contributed to my metabolism slowing to sludge. It was magic! After five minutes of talking to Mom in that enclosure I had to poop! FINALLY.

I'm sure everyone wants to know about this.

Dad had 4 liters of fluid removed from his gut this morning, and is still undergoing tests to see how necessary dialysis is. I'm a bit annoyed that its taking so long but at least they're being thorough. He's either going to end up being found to have 20-30% kidney function - teetering the fence of needing dialysis immediately or in the near future - or having lower function, which needs dialysis. I'm rooting for dialysis, to be honest. The diuretics drain some fluid from his tissues (his gut and legs), but most of it comes from his blood, organs, and muscles and its leaving him so weak and depleted. Dialysis would be more like having normal kidneys and he wouldn't end up dehydrated, despite having FOUR LITERS of fluid accumulated in his gut alone, or malnourished, despite eating well. Not to mention having electrolyte issues that do no good to his patched, grafted, stinted, weakened, pacemakered, defibrillated heart.

So.
