Warning, Spoilers for HBP under the cut... Yeh have been warned!
First of all, a non-spoiler: in my opinion, HBP is the best Harry Potter book after PoA.
Secondly, Dumbledore's death: OMGWTF? I know, I've been saying for ages that I wanted him to die but I really didn't think JKR was going to pull it off. I so thought it was going to be Snape or Draco. Even at the top of the Astronomy Tower, I still kept thinking it might be Tonks or Remus or someone else from the Order or the faculty. But she killed Dumbledore. Just like that. I'm still trying to cling to my evil!Dumbledore theories but the old man got hell of a lot of sympathy points from me through this book.
Snape is evil? Who would have thought so? Or isn't he? Is he truly and fully in allegiance with Voldemort or was it only survival instinct that made him kill Dumbledore in the end? After all, it was Dumbledore or him because he had to act in Draco's stead after Malfoy failed. If he didn't the Vow would have killed him. Still, I think we can pretty safely assume that Snape has finally shown his true face. Just trying to play Devil's Advocate and consider all possibilities.
Draco. I can see possibilities for a last-minute-redemption in book 7 here... He couldn't kill Dumbledore, he just kept stubbornly claiming that he didn't have a choice, he was crying the bathroom (awww, *fangirls*). If he survives Voldemort's wrath for failing to kill Dumbledore, he might just about turn to the side of the light. As far as he is concerned, I believe all options are still open, more than in any other character's case (*pointedly glances at Snape*).
Snape being the Half-Blood Prince? I kinda had my suspicions about this one whenever the HBP was so good at potions but thought myself wrong when Harry discovered that the book was too old to be his dad's (seeing that Snape was at school at the same time as the Marrauders). Didn't occur to me that Snape might have had a second-hand book of course.
R.A.B. = Regulus A. Black? That thought sprang to my mind almost the second I read the note. I mean, most of the Blacks seem to be pretty powerful wizards (and there is no indication to Regulus being an exception) and as Dumbledore said, it would take a powerful wizard to get to the locket. We know he left Voldemort and was killed soon after. All the pieces of the puzzle fit for this one.
The Horcruxes: I love this idea. That turn also fits my sequel to "His Worst Enemy" just perfectly. Well, ok, I'd have to ignore some of Dumbledore's theories about why Tom acts the way he does but *squeeeee*, I think it could work. Oh, I so hope I can get back into writing now.
The ships:
- Bill/Fleur, not much of a surprise there and no comment, really
- Ron/Lavender, same as Harry/Cho, i.e. yeah, whatever, everyone is allowed on relationship mistake, let's just move on, shall we?
- Ron/Hermione, no surpise there, and I actually kinda like that ship
- Harry/Ginny, *headdesk* You've got to bloody kidding me, right? I mean, come on! Harry/Ginny? That's just like bad fanfic or something! Especially in conjunction with Ron/Hermione. And even if they kinda break up in the end.
- Remus/Tonks, see Harry/Ginny, even though it's the more tolerable out of the two. But still, urgg.
Right, these are the main points I can currently think of. More may follow soon(er or later). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give me your opinions on the book, I'm dying to discuss it with other people!
