Yesterday I mentioned
brownfemipower's reaction to a recent post about the Department of Home Security's
newly raised concern over the fact that female suicide bombers are packing explosives around their stomachs to give the appearance of pregnancy. Now I've had some time to think about it I think I can post about it.
The DHS does mention that this is a world wide but brownfemipower unmasks what could become a big problem:
But even though this is a “world wide” threat-the memo is very specific about where the threat is most credible: Iraq, Sri Lanka,India, Pakistan, Chechnya, the Palestinian territories and Turkey.
Notice something about this list? All the countries have either a majority brown population or either are or have a history of being colonized.
What this “world-wide” memo that gives a special importance to brown/colonized nations does is target the reproductive capabilities of brown women world wide. In other words, this memo does not warn us to be on the look out for blond pregnant women in sweden-this is not the “world” the memo is talking about. The world this memo is talking about is a brown one, a desperate one, an amoral one-one that twists the beauty of life giving into something ugly and violent.
I won't speak for the folks over that site but I think that they may be hinting to a new frontier of racial profiling. Is it possible that there will be a new target at the airports? Usually when you think about who gets targeted for "random" examinations brown and tan men and some women. Under normal circumstances being pregnant would almost exclude a woman from a search but now it would seem that pregnancy may become another whammy along with the skin tone. I suppose there will be an episode of Dateline that will have coverage of how ultrasound machines have become the newest weapon in war on terror.
I know it makes sense to assess all potential threats but I wonder if this will become the next big "threat" the politicians will use to generate fear among the people.
This is just the tip of a much larger iceberg (that goes in a very different direction) that brownfemipower points out.
