"Indeed"
After some years writing and reading for a stargate pbem I've finally watched the complete series. Granted, it started over two months ago, starting from the original movie and going all the way from season 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, summing to a total of 214 episodes (+movie) which give or take sum up to a total of almost 10.000 minutes of stargate packed entertainment! That's something like 166 hours; close to 7 days of non-stop stargate marathon :)
Going to start on Atlantis now. First episode sounds promising so far.
Granted the last two seasons of Stargate are lacking a certain something. The change in the cast wasn't perfect, imho, but aside from some rather bad moments it worked for the most part. One part I don't really like is the new general (Hank Landry). Ack! It just sounds so... well, bad! His daughter and the associated storyline has not impressed me much either. Mitchell is ok for most times, but can never reach to O'Neill knees and it seems he desperately wants to fill in his shoes but fails miserably every time he tries. He does have some redeeming points but it just isn't the same thing.
One episode that made gasp for fresh air and made me feel nauseated as much as when I was watching 'pulp fiction' was the episode 'Uninvited' with those long 'monologues' between Mitchell and Landry... ::shivers:: ack, so painful.
The Ori are a cool enemy, along with the Orici and Ba'al and the main storyline is still pretty cool, so, all in all a great ride. Plus, Vala Mal Doran is pretty crazy and cool! ;) And it's cool to know that Stargate is the longest running uninterrupted sci-fi show in history, surpassing the X-files and even StarTrek (no serie was longer then SG-1)
Anyway... I guess I know miss writing for Stargate Command RPG. Granted with all the canon developments and our own game spin-off we created in a last attempt to save the end of the game, it all seems too much apart. Still, it was the same 'universe' with all its neat things and the people who made it so; be it characters, actors, writers or us fans, players and writers in our own little and special corner.
Anyway, not much more to say. Waiting for the 2 stargate movies to come out next year and trying to recall all that SG-1 accomplished in these 10 years. To that I leave you all with 'my' icon, showing a very concise (and cute) simplified history of the 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 in a fantastic pixel art display. ;)
