Alright. I skipped the episode last night, because I expected it little. I watched it online today, and here is my review, fresh from watching it.
As always, this review is unimpressed, unfangirly, fairly ranty, and...as an added bonus, this episode inspired unadulterated loathing in me. You've been warned.
Alrighty! I actually have a transcript of watching it and commenting ala MST in my IMs, so I'll build off of that for my review.
Despite skipping it originally, my brother talked it up when I asked him about it, so I had high expectations of it being the singular episode that will turn this season from a boring snoozefest of an insult to the series, into something worthy of Heroes. (Hiro's storyline alone is exempt from this estimation)
So. Did Claire feed the toe to Mr. Muggles?
Okay, so Peter's story of the ep started out fairly predictable for Peter. I didn't expect much from this episode--but the Tactician from Enterprise was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Too bad he had to be the bad guy. It would have been funner if he were Peter's boss. Apparently they can only afford classic Trek actors on a regular basis.
And, Peter. Poor, innocent, Peter. Why would he SAY that OUT LOUD? Please use your brain. Its a shame to waste the one brain Sylar might not ever get.
Maya and Alejandro (Currently record holder of the hardest name to say or spell in Heroes)...Smashing the window of a Cadillac? I know its Mexico...but...come on. There has got to be a better way. Also. If separation = DOOM, come up with better escape plans.
Niki and Micah. I have nothing to say, really. I've said my thing about DL conveniently dying.
Sylar...Sylar Sylar Sylar. Raise your hand everyone who is sick and tired of his storyline! Because I am. Oh I am so over Sylar's story. Sylar proves predictably dumb by immediately moving around and writhing in pain as soon as Candice said not to. Idiot.
Annd. Claire. Ahh, Claire. Your excuse making has deteriorated. Pedicure? You were better off ignoring West completely. Maybe letting Noah deal with it. It wasn't completely her fault, after all, and he has the Haitian again. (Who was suspiciously absent this time around.) Anyway, no, she doesn't do the intelligent thing. And guess what. When West acts like a complete asshole, she GETS UP AND RUNS AWAY. Thanks for informing the class. Geez. You'd think she'd never been in school before. But, whats rich is this is all okay as soon as he can fly. Missing your family, Claire?
West's 'wit' about the toe has to be his one good moment ever.
Also. No comment about Zach giving her the book first? Nice. Very frickin' smooth.
And the so called 'flight'? Had to be THE worst effects in the show. Ever. It was painful to watch. I thought I was watching Heroes, not a 70s Superman movie.
Matt/Mo...okay guys. Seriously. Do you enjoy people slashing? Because. Wow.
ANDO. You poor thing. Find Hiro's sister.
The sword. THE SWORD. That is seriously. Right now. Biggest Deux Ex Machina of the season. There are SO many things wrong with that. You're telling me NO one opened it before? Never? And Hiro knew Ando would check while he was gone?
Wouldn't it suck if he came back and found out Ando didn't snoop all over the sword because maybe something important was happening (Haha, I know, what a joke. Things IMPORTANT happening not around Peter or Sylar or Claire!) Boy would that be embarassing.
KENSEI! Honestly. Hiro's storyline is the only reason to watch the show. You could pitch it just with Hiro. "Why do I want to watch it?" "Because Hiro is in Japan with the king of snark!" "AWRIGHT"
Haha, Peter, that doesn't even work in Marvel, honey.
Kensei's grandson! Sir Snarks A lot! He's the best part of the twins right now.
But anyway. Hiro. And the princess! They're cute. Poor Hiro, he's such a dork, honestly, he'll never get a girl. At least he gets the best sidekicks. Personally I hope Hiro stays in the past forever, because I love it, its THE best part of the show, as I said earlier. I love Kensei, honestly. "How angry are they?" Has to be the best line ever. I still want Hiro to become Kensei, though, maybe they can trade off.
Annd. More Peter. This has to be the LAMEST heist ever. Effective, true, even though they botched it up. But. Wow. Uneventful much? The preview made me expect much more from it. The bright side at least of his amnesia is that Peter might learn better control of his powers...but...they were pretty under control by Claude already. Just wait till he and the Irish chick get heavy, though. HELLO TED.
Ah. Isaac's loft. This part cracked me up SO bad. "You're important to us!" Yeah. That's why the best you can give me IS A USED LOFT OF A DEAD GUY. That you HAVENT CLEARED OUT YET.
I feel so special.
Also. THIS is their tribute to Isaac? I hate you, Kring.
And back to Niki. Why do you people keep wanting a 'normal' life? MICAH DOESN'T WANT ONE. Geez. Hey, Niki. Guess who your kids talking to online?
Annd UHURA! It all comes together, now. The Enterprise crash landed across dimensions, and they all settled down there, and made kids. These kids are super kids. It finally makes sense. Look out for Chekov in season 4. When Peter goes to Russia.
Maya! She's almost cool. But she fails, because her power is just so...anticlimactic. And I think the theory that Alejandro will die from taking her power in too much makes sense. It'll teach her to stop it on her own in the way trauma only does.
Oh. And who opened Snark a lot's cage?
Amusing that the mob (that is a lame mob, BTW) makes jokes of the kind that boss dude thought Will was kidding about Peter's thing. Also. Peter? Spitting the bullet out? Ugh. I don't need to see that ever again (Yet I did). He just beat Claire in 'who can be more gross with their powers'.
Oh, Hiro. You have to want to hug him. I would have liked to see him get the idea, though. I am so happy he didn't leave. It was so pathetic and happy. They should make a series about Hiro and Takeo and Yaeko. The Hiro, Takeo and Yaeko are Awesome series. Maybe Takeo and Yaeko will go for a threesome.
Oh, and Hiro, your daddy's waiting for no one but Angela.
Ah. And now for the WORST PART OF THE SHOW. Sylar. Sy. Freaking. Lar. God I hate this part. What exactly was Candice thinking? Obviously nothing. Because, wow. What illusionist leaves themselves vulnerable? Why didn't she just make an illusion of herself to talk? Huh? Then she would still be alive.
Stupid broad.
Also.
Paris, London, Japan? Wtf, Sylar? What were you doing? She doesn't transport.
I HATE YOU SYLAR. AND YOUR REPETITIVE STORYLINES. Just die already. God. You suck.
Actually. Apparently he's on Lost Island. Maybe the monster can eat you.
Anyway. Peter. Predictable unnecessary extension of the storyline. "Maybe my life is bad and thats why I don't know. Lets wallow in amnesia and make out with Irish chicks." She's familiar, too. Wonder if she was in DW.
Also. The tattoo. THE TATTOO. Honestly. My brother made the best observation ever. Peter was apparently feeling or thinking of Claire when he was making out with a girl....
Umm.
If you don't want Paire, why do you encourage it, Kring?
Honestly.
Anyway. West and Claire. Ugh. If they do the "I cant trust you, Daddy!" plot, AGAIN. I'm gonna be sick.
Niki. I thought she wanted to be cured of her power, but I guess she's just got the sickness that Mo cures.
Ah. And the coup de grace. Dead Noah ;o;. I. Will. QUIT the fandom. If West kills Noah. Hell. I might quit no matter who kills him. Especally if West lives.
Overall....I did not like this episode. Honestly, this came off more impulsive than I intended, but my father started watching the show while I was writing it, so it became a bit more of a play by play. Candice being fat was stupidly predictable. I don't care if it was hinted at. It was stupid.
Sylar still has his aura of asinine, and uses it freely. Maybe its the ability to nullify others' powers when he wants them? Because I've never seen them USE their powers to get away, except for Peter, who has that old 'Hero never loses, even if physics disagrees' aura.
Also. This keeps moving more and more toward Five Years Gone universe. Sure, the bomb hasn't blown, and Ando is still alive. But both of those end in 'yet'. So far, Peter has Ted and DL's powers. Sylar has Candice, and nothing is stopping him from having DL's powers. Yes, DL is dead, but I doubt he needs them alive, anyway.
Then, we've got Matt as a NYC cop, working his way along toward who knows where. He's divorced from Janice, and as far as we know she's still having little Matthew.
Noah and co are in hiding away from Texas, Peter and Nathan are separated...
Noah just got a painting showing him shot in the head, which, guess what? Happens in 5YG.
Mohinder is in the Company working as a scientist TO CURE THE SPECIALS. Hiro is becming hardcore, hanging out in Japan, and may well become some sort of...samurai or something.
Jessica's apparently gone, DL is dead, and Micah is with her family and technically may never come back to Niki. Interesting.
Sylar's still mauling things. Nothing is stopping him coming back to NYC, Hiro and Ando coming back, Ando dying, NYC going up later, and everything going the way Hiro saw.
I'm not happy.
Where is the Heroes I love? In Japan? I am sad.
Note: Takeo = Takezo, I just like it more.
