Well the unpacking is all done. I'm finally out of Texas and back into a part of the world that makes sense. St Louis is great so far btw. I've got a great loft about 5 minutes from downtown, and just a short drive from all of the little neighborhoods that make up the city. I've really not had much of a chance to get out and about, I know ( Read more... )

greetings from a STL native. sainte_4 September 29 2007, 00:11:52 UTC
hey there- chrisrohn sent me your name. nice to "meet" you.

i currently live in wisconsin, but will be moving back to st. louis in about three weeks. i'm a DJ both there and here (usually at rapture), so i think i might be able to offer you some insight:

currently, the only weekly event in STL is rapture- which is on a tuesday night. it is at the upstairs lounge in the south grand area (basically hartford and s. grand), features rotating DJs and newer music.

the bigger event is requiem- a monthly event on the first monday of the month. it is held at dante's- a club (used to be old firehouse- awesome place), across from the far end of saint louis university (compton and olive/lindell). it's a much bigger dance event, and there's one happening this coming monday (i will be in attendance as well). the halloween party will be on halloween this year rather than the monday before, and that is always HUGE.

the thing about the st. louis scene is that it is somewhat always in flux. it has been steadily growing for the last couple of years, but it's VERY DIY and somewhat difficult to get weekend nights. so, we do what we can with what we have. skeletal13 is the main move-and-shaker in the scene- puts together a lot of stuff. there are ALWAYS smaller events and shows going on, so make sure to check out myspace frequently. as an example, martin atkins and i:scintilla are playing tonight at creepy crawl, psyclon nine and VNV are playing at pop's across the river, etc. it's getting better. but, if you're expecting city club, you might want to visit detroit more frequently because we don't have that. but, honestly, after visiting a lot of the clubs in chicago and madison, wisconsin (which has a thriving scene), the music isn't much different, and in many cases, is better in STL (in my opinion).

anyway, add me, i'll add you. if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. :) feel free to add me on myspace as well- www.myspace.com/djstemairet
