Well, just before I delve right back into studying for my susp tomorrow, I got reminded of Manifest and went to check on the dates so they didn't clash with Armageddon Con... I found theres a SG1/SGA special later on in November but when I looked closer into it, admission is $75 for their members and $90 for non-members (general public I assume). The more I think about it, the more I think is all just a fucking rip-off!
http://cultureshockexpo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=63 Yes, my friends. $90 + $40 for each "photo opportunity". Easily, $170 for just a meet-and-fucking-greet!
After going to AX07 (Anime Expo, US convention), Manifest for a number of years and other events, this is an utterly, utterly ridiculous price and all I see this is an exercise to line their pockets and milking Australian sci-fi fans for what they're worth. Yes, I understand you need to PAY for these appearances, given the rarity of sci-fi stars coming to Australia (we are the neglected, fuck you Europe/UK/US), but this is just ridiculous.
I'll be turning up for Armageddon, but don't expect me to turn up for the SG1/SGA one. I swear, if Armageddon goes to shit and I'm basically paying for someone else's hotel room service, I will boycott my friends and fellow sci-fi comrades not to go to any of their events.
Fucked, if I'm going to let them bleed me dry. I'm poor enough as it is, so fuck off.
Oh, almost forgot to mention.
Manifest has jacked up the price of registration again. It's now $40 pre-reg and after last year's disappointing turn (downsizing the traders hall and seemingly lack of real stock, events seemed to have gone to hell) despite the "record" attendees. I'm not impressed, and I'm seriously considering not going to Manifest this year around.
Seriously disappointed at the convention community. I am not your cash cow.
