I have done so much stuff in the past 48hours, it's hardly even possible.
Friday at like... 6PM? Julie texted me and she and her mom picked me up and we went to her house and all that cal. When she saw me, she said "Aww! You're so cute!" XD She likes my hair (as in, afro. Ugh.)/Doc Martens/stupid ripped up Sex Pistols shirt I made that's, like, a off the shoulder type thing with safety pin spaghetti straps (I suck at describing things, you'd really have to see it).
Anyway, we played Left 4 Dead 2, which is insanely cool and really makes me want to get an XBOX 360. Well, a lot of things make me want to get a 360. But anyway. We played that for a while, and then it was like, all stormy outside and we watched that for a while (we're easily amused, I suppose). She has windows in her room, and she's like, on the top floor, so it's pretty cool. But yeah, I had to text Melina to make sure she was okay, because she gets freaked about these sorts of things, you know. She probably thought I was crazy, texting her all the time, but whatever. Julie was all "Awwww! You're so sweet!"
Sometime around there, her mom texted her and said she was staying at her boyfriend's house. So I was stuck there until my mom got off work at 6AM. I don't mean "stuck there" like it sucked or anything, but it's just that I wasn't expecting it or anything, you know? If I did, I would've brought more stuff for us to do, since we were getting kind of bored and there were many awkward silences, haha.
But we did spend a lot of time talking about stuff. I can't even remember a lot of it. She told me that Matt said he liked her but didn't want to go out with her, which was weird. I mean, he never showed that he liked her or anything. And why you would tell someone you like them but don't want to go out with them, I don't know. I told her about Jim, and then she went through his facebook and made fun of the statuses he posts. XD I totally do that too. Well, in my head. And... we talked about my totally awesome penpals (the two of them that actually talk to me, anyway), and she told me I should tell Larson that he should let me live in Minnesota with him and then we could get married, and everything would be wonderful. Only because I told her he likes records and thrifty shopping and stuff too. Hahaha...ha... No, that's not creepy at all.
We played with her cat, Oliver, too. He's pretty cool. He even has his own facebook page. And he isn't a totally lazyass like my cats. When he wants to play, he'll bring one of those fishing pole type toys to you, he'll carry it in his mouth and it's so adorable. But he wants to play ALL OF THE TIME. When we were playing that game, he kept hitting Julie and me with his paws (claws in, of course. He's so much cooler than my cats). I want one.
Uh... yeah. We got pissed off at Left 4 Dead because there was this one part we couldn't get past (I think it's because I totally suck, but she didn't say anything), so we just kind of sat around until my mom came to pick me up. Julie was about falling asleep, and I was really tired, too. But you know.
Oh! And I broke my mp3 player. I dropped it on the floor (which was like, linoleum or something, so it wasn't even that hard. I've dropped it on concrete before), and the shell came off and the play button and the volume buttons and everything. I put it back together and we taped it up with medical tape. It still plays, miraculously. I have no idea if my computer'll read it, but it plays. Those little MuVos are really great. You wouldn't think they would be, but they are.
So, mom and I went to Walgreens, because they had this mp3 player on clearance for... 13 or 14 dollars, I'm not sure. So we got that, and some ice cream, and other useless crap. I was looking at those little
Crazerasers and she asked me what my fascination with little erasers was. They're cool! They have little mascara shaped erasers, you know, with the wand and everything. I already bought a couple of sets, just because. The one has little headphones and a little record. It's so cute. I'm not going to use them, just because they're so cute. Melina thinks it's stupid, too. I have this little milk or orange juice shaped one that came out of a gumball machine at that comic book store in the Loop. I forget what the store's called. But anyway, it's Japanese. And it's actually kind of shaped like it'd be useable, but it's too damn cute. The Crazerasers are pretty much American rip offs of the Japanese ones, honestly. I'm still trying to decide if I like the mp3 player or anything.
Anyway! We went home so she could eat the Hardees biscuit or whatever she bought, and she told me to look up yard sales on Craigslist. We go to yard sales every Wednesday and Friday. But yeah, I looked it up, and there were a ton, even just in Arnold. So we set out, and we went to all these in Arnold that we had heard of. We got a desk chair for $5. It's actually pretty good, too. It's squishy and it has arms *and* it leans back without threat of the legs breaking (I wouldn't know anything about that...). I almost bought a fancy new(er) record player, too, but it didn't have settings for 78s (not that I listen to 78s, I hate those fuckers) or a long spindle or tonearm (I think that's what it's called), so I wouldn't be able to play stacks of records like I do. A few of the yard sales in Arnold had record players, but none of them were that good. There was this one yard sale that was like, massive (it went across two yards) and all the proceeds went to some organization for Autism research or something (not too sure what it was called, but totally cool), and they had a ton of stuff. I got a lucky cat bank for Melina, for 25 cents or something crazy like that, and 16 small bottles of paint for 5 cents each (80 cents total, for those of you who don't want to do the math). And you know those little bottles of paint are like, a dollar each. Even if only one of them wasn't crap, it's still a steal. (They're all liquid, so that's a good sign. Haven't opened them or anything yet). I can't remember what my mom got at that one. But the total was $8.40 or something, but they told us to just give them 8 for it (they're crazy, I tell you, selling all that stuff for so cheap then rounding down), but mom paid them 9 and told them to keep it. Becuase, you know, we'd feel bad if we just paid 8, since it was going to charity/research/whatever it was and all that cal.
I can't really remember the rest of the Arnold yard sales. Well, there was this one "moving" sale, but the lady in there seemed really confused. She was all "My son just went to McDonalds..." and she had no idea what she was selling. She said the washer and the dryer were for sale, blah blah blah. You should've seen this beautiful old radio they had in there. It was weird, because it was next to this like, shiny new computer and everything. But seriously, it was the most beautiful radio I've ever seen, even though it didn't have a record player or anything attached to it. It was one of those big standing ones, that was about 4 feet tall, and it was all wood and stuff. God, if Google Image Search didn't suck so much, I'd get you a picture. (
Here, this isn't exactly it, but it's close and it actually loaded.) A few of the other yard sales had boxes of free stuff, though, so we grabbed some of that. We got a vases and some toothbrushes, and some other stuff. There was this one sale that was selling DVDs for 10 cents. But anyway. After the Arnold sales, we headed out to Imperial (which is right next to Arnold, really. My mom can't be bothered to drive any further). It was getting all stupid and sunny out (it had been cloudy and nice, with some drizzling, for most of the morning) by the time we got there, but it wasn't too bad. there was a sale that had all these records for a quarter each! (How crazy is that?! The Salvation Army isn't that cheap!) Most of the stuff wasn't that interesting to me. My mom got a few records that she'll probably never listen to. But I found... that Operation Ivy LP, Energy. Operation Ivy. On vinyl. At a yard sale. In Arnold/Imperial. For a quarter. I almost cried out of pure joy. (You have no idea how hard it is to find my types of music at yard sales. The best until now has been T. Rex.) But yeah. the record wasn't in the paper inner sleeve, but it was still in the cardboard outer sleeve (I told myself it's because the inner sleeve had all these obscene advertisements for Pansy Division albums, but it's probably just because they suck) and the record looked about played to death and dropped a few times, and it had that fine, really-hard-to-get-out dust in the grooves and everything (probably because the record player they were selling didn't have a dust cover. If that lady hadn't been so nice, I would've smacked her). When I got it home and put it on, it plays... okay. It skips one or two grooves on the first side, and quite a few on the second side. I cleaned it and everything too, but it's in pretty bad condition. I could try dish soap, but I don't think I want to risk making it worse. And I found out that my record player might now be down to one channel, which sounds pretty awful. It might just be because I didn't want to turn it up hella loud, because that's how it's been since I've had it (I doubt most record players are like that), but you know, I didn't want to turn it up hella loud and wake Melina up.
But I digress. We went to a few yard sales after that, but they kind of sucked. Eventually, we found our way to this subdivision sale at place called "The Shadows". I'm not kidding. The street names were scary, too, like "Darkmoor" and "Donnybrook." By now, it was getting quite hot out, but there was a sale at about every other house, so we trudged along. The whole subdivision was hilly and everything; it was really awful. But they all had some nice stuff, stuff that my mom wanted to look at anyway. I got a Chinese silk brocade jacket thing (made in China with real silk) for $5, which mom thinks is expensive for a yard sale, even though they had a whole table of free vases to make up for it. We went to a ton of yard sales just in that subdivision, but we had to quit, even though there were so many more. It was getting hot and there was too much walking for her arthritic knee, and I was getting a little heat exhausted (I'm no good in hot weather. No good at all), so we went home.
Well, we went to Dairy Queen first, but you know. I got a small Blizzard there, when I could've gotten a large Sonic Blast for less than that tiny thing. I was so pissed.
Oh, you know what's awesome/weird? At... I'll say, half, the yard sales, they were selling ironing boards. And typewriters. There was this weird little portable electric Brother typewriter. You plugged it in, but it had hammers, which is totally odd to me. The only electrics I've seen have used Daisy wheels. And I really don't see the point of it being electric if it has hammers, but whatever.
So. That was my Friday night/Saturday.
I'm sorry my paragraphs suck. I'm kind of out of it. My sleep schedule is so fucked up. And I'm sorry for the spelling mistakes, if they've made their way in there. I was typing this on Notepad because my stupid internet wouldn't load LJ.
Now, I need to start writing an email, which will probably take about a week...
EDIT: Gah! Blocks of text! But am I going to fix it? Nooo. No wonder no one reads my entries.
EDIT 2: I just remembered, that lady that had the Operation Ivy record also had a laserdisc of Pulp Fiction. Isn't that wild?
