Today, Spencer Smith, drummer for Panic! At The Disco, posted
this.
Basically, he admits to being an addict/alcoholic for the past 4 1/2 years and seeking treatment for the last two.
I suggest reading the post because there's no way I'll be able to articulate what he said and how he said it. Kudos to you, Spence, for being honest and upfront about it- a lot of "celebrities" wouldn't have bothered.
Question, though: he says that it started getting out of hand 4 1/2 years ago, wasn't that around the time Panic split, or was it after? (on my phone and I can't double check it right now Because my phone hates google for some reason)
Not that I blame the split- if it did happen at the same time- for Spencer's problems, Spencer's a fucken adult and responsible for his own choices, but I do wonder if not being in a band with Ryan any more made his depression worse. Because, tbh, if my lifetime best friend wasn't in the same band as me and even if I knew intellectually that he wasn't gone from my life, I might be pretty damn depressed myself, which, if I'm already drinking a lot might cause me to drink even more.
Also, on the subject of Ryan, he dropped down about twenty points in my estimation of him earlier today. Dude, promoting someone's album who habitually cyber bullies people, threatens to hurt them and has also threatened a small child, is just not on. Come on, man.
Oh, and Brendon: not cool man. Just...seriously, stop that shit. Posting a series of vines about partying and drinking like a rock star ten minutes after your long time bandmate and friend posts a statement about being an alcoholic is douchbaggery to the extreme. Unless, of course, Spence knew and didn't care, in which case, still not funny, but it is lower on the Asshole meter.
