Ice Ice Baby

Because of our ice/snow storm this weekend, we lost some power at various times. It made for a little bit of a boring weekend, because obviously we didn't want to go putzing around on the roads. However, Aaron and I did go down to Olive Garden around 3:00 for "lupper" and tried the two new entrees. They were very good. We then went to B&N where he bought a book about an atheist who turned believer, and I bought a bunch of picture books along with 1000 Places to See Before You Die. Would've bought more but I haven't had much time for extra-curricular reading of late, and plus my Gaelen Foley book should be coming sometime in the next couple weeks.

I'm royally pissed that "The Other Boleyn Girl" hasn't come to the Oswego theater yet. I mean, how can you have a movie starring Scarlett Johannsan, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana and NOT be showing it the week it opens? I'm sure it was a cost issue but the guy who owns the theater has a really bad habit of not getting these kinds of highly anticipated films for almost a month after they've been released, and by that point most people have gone to Syracuse to see it and then he still doesn't make any money. And this forces him to have stupid films stay on his screens for two months at a time because he can't afford to get anything better, or whatever the case may be. GAH!!!!

Since Aaron's new plasma TV has a PC input, we've been doing the instant Netflixing of some films. Watched "La Vie En Rose" last weekend - different than I expected. I think I would've liked it better if it didn't skip around so much. I think it was okay to start off with a scene that takes place later in Piaf's life, but then I think it should've gone back to the beginning and just gone chronologically from there. It made it hard to follow what was happening when. Still, I enjoyed it and you like foreign biopics, you'd like it. Marion Cotillard got the Oscar for her performance, and that alone is worth a view IMHO.

We also watched "Ninja Scroll." It'd been on my list of must-see animes for a while, I've read that it's one of the quintessential ninja animes. Well..... it was a good plot, good dialogue, and the artwork was impressive and high quality. The gory blood and guts I expected, though at times, as is common with anime, it did get a little ridiculously gratuitous. Although it's rated R, I was not expecting the nudity, the various sexual assaults, and the random doggie style sex scene. O_o

books, movies, anime
