Fear the stingrays!

This is just freaky. Are stingray attacks one of the signs of an impending apocolypse?

It's been a very busy week, lots of meetings and such. I was feeling a little bit overwhelmed on Tuesday after the Reading First grade level data meeting, it feels sometimes like all this stuff is being thrown at me, like, "Here ya go, go do what you're supposed to with this," but nobody's telling me how or what I'm supposed to be doing. I feel a little stupid sometimes, that it's taking me longer to process this stuff in my head than everyone else. Now I have to get ready for report card testing AND continue my progress monitoring. I wish I had more hours in the day.

I've also been fighting laryngitis all week. The cold I had over the weekend wasn't even anything to fuss over, but it just settled in my voice box. Yesterday I had almost no voice at all. Surprisingly, the kids were good about it. I was worried that if I still had it today, I'd have to take Friday off to rest my voice, which is the only tried and true way to get over laryngitis. However, I mostly have my voice back today, so as long as I don't do much talking tonight and I don't have to speak too loudly tomorrow, I should be good by Monday, what with the weekend to rest my voice. The hard part is that I have to sing in Carmina Burana, and it's way up in the stratosphere. If I need to, I'll just tell Dr. Pretzat that I can't sing on Monday and just follow along. Fortunately I know the music from having played it in band, so if I just follow along with the words at least I'll be getting practice with the medieval Latin and German.

We had a lock down drill this afternoon. The kids did a really nice job, I explained what it was all about (the kid-friendly version) this morning, and then reminded them after lunch. We just got out the blankets and chilled in the play area and had rest time.

I've been having a lot of fun of late also. Saturday Aaron and I went down to Taughannack Falls state park (by Ithaca) to check out the falls and the gorge. It was kind of a yicky day, so we just walked the gorge trail, but it's a pretty cool place and it'd be a great place to go on a warm sunny day to walk the rim trails. I love going to see stuff like that, like Watkins Glen. After the falls we found a little place in Ithaca for lunch, then stopped off at Carousel on the way home to indulge my love of books. It was educator's appreciation weekend at Borders, I got probably 20 new books for my classroom. They had a lot of Halloween and Thanksgiving selections. After that we came here to hang out and have dinner. Tuesday Aaron came over to watch a movie, and last night we went to the jazz thing at King Arthur's. Dunno what's in the plans for this weekend, but I'm sure it'll be something similarly fun. :)

Eric and Shelly's wedding is tomorrow night at 5. I'll have to have the last few kids go to someone else's room at 3:30 so I can book home to get ready. Not sure what to wear. It's supposed to be rainy and cold. I was thinking my red dress, but I haven't worn it since Alyssa's wedding, and I've lost 10 pounds since then. It could be ridiculously baggy. My other option is the cream and gold dress I got this summer with the shawl I found at Macy's, but it's sleeveless and I'd likely freeze my ass off. But I haven't had a chance to wear it anywhere and I've been dying to. I really don't want to wear a suit to the wedding.

Also, getting free books from Scholastic is fun. Since I have more than $20 in my October class order, I can get a free tote bag. Yay! My current teacher tote that Mom got me for Christmas before I student taught is still holding up well, but it's getting yucky. I've had it for almost four years now and it's pretty beat up inside and out. Besides, you can never have too many teacher totes of various styles and sizes.
