Devil May Cry Book Discussion

*sniffle* The last Dark Hunter book (At least until the next book comes out) that we'll be discussing.

If I'm not mistaken Kat first appeared in Wulf's book, Kiss of the Night and there were some pretty strange things about her. The fact that she was a really tall, strikingly gorgeous woman who could open a portal and force the Illuminati through it, and even though she was a handmaiden of Artemis, Acheron had never seen her and even said that she couldn't be one of Artemis' handmaidens since Artemis literally didn't like anyone to look down on her and Kat was taller than her.

Then there was that touching yet confusing scene in Seize the Night when Acheron is wounded in what I assume is a coma-like state in Kyrian's home. Simi shows up with Kat in tow and seems to know Kat very well since she tells Tabitha that Kat would never hurt Acheron because she loves him like they do. When Kat comes to heal Acheron and tells him "One day we will know eachother," that got me thinking that she was a family member he didn't know existed. I knew that it must have been important that Acheron not know about Kat's existance since she vanished as soon as he regained consciencness and Simi never mentioned that it was Kat who saved him. Though Ash didn't see Kat, he remembered her voice telling him that one day they would know eachother.

Fast forward to Devil May Cry... Okay, who guessed that Kat was Acheron's daughter (and if you didn't have a clue, did your mouth drop open like mine did)? I don't know why I never thought of that instead but then again, neither did any of the Dark Hunters of people that came in to contact with her and knew Acheron. It was actually two strangers (Sin and Damien who had never seen Kat before that pointed out her startling resemblance to Artemis and logically concluded who she was).

Again we see what a selfish bitch Artemis is, as opposed to "can be." Meaning that the few times Artemis does something good, I'm obliged to say "Well look at what a kind goddess she can be." However, the only good thing I can remember that Artemis did (If it can even qualify as good, given the circumstances), was give Acheron Nick's soul without demanding payment for it.

Speaking of Acheron, didn't you love seeing a lighter side of him? As much as he hates the fact that he didn't get to be a father to Kat from the beginning, he tries to be one for her from the moment he finds out yet he tries not to crowd her so much. The Kat/Ash moments were so cute and funny at the same time. They're so remarkably similar to one another, but at the same time different. Acheron doesn't really let anyone close to him, while Kat doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Though there is Acheron's history to consder.

My personal favorite Kat/Ash moment is when Kat returns to Olympus after getting into a fight with Sin. She sees Acheron in Artemis' temple and the following dialogue ensues:

"Where's Artemis?"

Acheron pointed over his shoulder with his thumb. "Big house on the hill. It's the one you really can't miss. Gaudy as hell and seroiusly overcompensating for a complex of some sort. Zeus is apparently throwing a party and Artemis wanted to stop in and visit."

"Is there something I can help with?"

"Now, you're a man and I hate all of you right now."

He took two steps back. "Fair enough, Since my presence is obviously causing you pain, I'll take my manhood outside to the terrace, where you can join me if you can overlook my obvious birth defect."

Her father went outside to sit on the railing, with his back against a column. The angry part of her wanted to run outside and shove him over it and let him go sprawling to the ground below.

How funny is that? Kat's sarcasm is exactly the same as Acheron's.

In the short time he has with her, Acheron gives some pretty good advice, don't you think?

We also meet Xypher, who's story will be out in February. Who's excited?

I loved the Simi/Xirena moment where Kat points out to Sin that Simi is having trouble adjusting to her sibling.

Ah, and then there's that part where Acheron is seeing two women in a dream. One is obviously Katra, but the other?
So what are you're thoughts on the book?

Which character would you rather have as the following and why?:

a.) A friend.
b.) An enemy.
c. ) A lover.
d.) Bodyguard

EDIT: It might be nice if I answered my own questions huh?

a.) I'd have to say Erika (From Dark Side of the Moon), simply because she's a smartass and it seems to me that to survive being around immortals and their egos, you need to be tough and a smartass.

b.) If I had to pick I'd have to say Artemis. Though she's a goddess, Ash is there to control her mean ass in case she wanted to fry me or something.

c.) As much as I love Ash, Kyrian and Valerius, I have to go with Vane. Technically he's not a Dark Hunter but damn he's sexy! I have a deep love for wolves and well, he's a wolf so there you go.

d.) Simi would be a lovely bodyguard. Virtually indestructable, yet caring and funny. She'd be perfect.
