Okay, I'm so glad that Katie Koestner came, because I'm now overly motivated to take action. I mean, before there was a problem because noone could talk about rape, but now the problems had grown exponentially because of peoles' reactions.
The other thing I wanted to point out. During the 8th hour session, someone argued that Todd's intentions weren't bad because he left his name and phone number. I think that's part of the issue: that he didn't realize what he did was wrong. This is partially why I strongly believe that we need to start this dialogue with kids before they make up their minds.
The other thing, someone argued that Amy (?) had it coming because she got drunk. Could we then argue that Todd expected this to happen because he was hosting the party? He made the jello shots... It's just another way to look at it.
It's actually getting to the point where I feel physically sick because of this shit at school. I hate walking around, because I have no faith in so many of my peers.
So here's my current plan of action: I'm working on getting a sexual assault/rape group session for Day of Dialogue. I talk to Mrs. Peacock about Katie coming back (she is this spring). I have some other things, but I can't really recall them. I just think there needs to be more dialogue on the topic.
