Beware the Killing Bottle (or the obligatory Nick Adams/Kumi Mizuno entry)

May 08, 2018 15:25

This past month, I've been catching up on several Showa era Toho films, particularly the Nick Adams films. While I was mostly familiar with "Invasion of Astro-Monster" (I grew up with the frankly better title, "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero"), I never watched "Frankenstein Conquers the World" until last week. I became especially intrigued by the latter film's chemistry between Nick Adams and Kumi Mizuno. It's easily understandable as to why kaiju eiga fans are still talking about the pairing, 50 years later. Oh, the shipper feels.

Sadly, the most elusive Toho Adams film has been "The Killing Bottle", so I'm particularly grateful for Japanese film buff Brett Homenick's semi-recent mini-review:

Never look at Jun Tazaki the same way again. I'm so used to his serious Toho kaiju films roles, it's weird-but-fun to see him cut loose, here. What a wild crazy guy.

Meanwhile, Japanese anime/film buff Brian Camp has excellent must-read commentaries/reviews about Adams' more well-known Toho films:

(Also, as the second link's caps prove, I'm strangely digging Namikawa's pillbox hats.)

Lastly, let's close the entry out with Glenn/Namikawa fan product that's worth promoting:

Regretfully, the Namikawa pin-up has been recently deleted from DA, so here are the best alternative viewing options I could find, ATM.
