Elena Struggles for Control on VD! (My 5x12 Thoughts)

Synopsis: SEARCHING FOR THE HIGH ROAD - When Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey) brings Damon (Ian Somerhalder) a gruesome present and insists that they bond by committing an act of revenge, Damon makes an effort to do the honorable thing. After finding himself in awkward and confusing conversations with Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda), Matt (Zach Roerig) impulsively decides to throw a party, where Caroline (Candice Accola) makes a stunning confession to Elena (Nina Dobrev), then has to face the consequence of her actions with Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Tyler (Michael Trevino). Aaron (guest star Shaun Sipos) does his best to make amends for his family’s past misdeeds and start a new life for himself. Finally, Elena suddenly finds herself in a life-threatening situation with only minutes to figure out how to save herself.
So either we see the last of Elena tonight or we see the last of Katherine tonight because the burning of the aging doppelganger body means someone's soul is moving on...unless another possession moment happens somewhere.

CREDITS
The very moment that turned my reaction around was Elena/Katherine's denial of Damon's confession. That is where my hopes were dashed! How dare you!! I'm very disappointed! You'd think the Delena breakup would be disappointing but THIS trumped that!
I would have to say that the only goods parts of this episode for me were:
a) Matt/Tyler bromance
b) Damon/Elena hug (before the black eyes appeared)
c) Montage of Katherine's memories (not the possession itself) -- I just love when we see old footage again
d) Caroline/Stefan (back at the boarding house)
e) Caroline being swayed to Team Delena
f) Nina's performance as she continued to flip flop between Elena/Katherine in the same body (she was great as she had me guessing when she was in the tomb)
Aside from these moments, I wasn't leaping from my seat in joy. =(
Just had a brainstorming breakthrough!
If Elena “ceases to exist”, does that mean she is on The Other Side?
If so then doesn’t that mean it’s only a matter of time (they better know within the hour) until Bonnie and Jeremy realize this?!?!?!?!
I mean, come on!
What’s the point in having two characters that could interact with the ghosts of former supernatural beings if they aren’t going to use it to their full advantage?

- Katherine arrives to find Mia & Nadia standing over Katherine's original body
- Mia needs Katherine's blood in order to transfer Elena into Katherine's body
- Katherine doesn't like that Mia is mutilating Katherine's body
- Katherine shifts...control is being fought
- Elena is back in control and accesses the situation...she pretends to be Katherine
- Does this mean that Mia could be double-crossing the mother/daughter team?
Lockwood Mansion
- Tyler is drinking
- Caroline walks in...she wants to explain
- Tyler is furious...he starts to list everything evil that Klaus has done to them all
- Tyler tells Caroline to walk away
- Caroline refuses to leave
- Tyler's hybrid face shows up
- Caroline flinches back
- Stefan intervenes and tells Tyler that he's drunk
- Tyler reveals that Caroline had slept with Klaus
- Stefan is stunned
- Caroline walks off
- Stefan punches Tyler
- "Drunk or not, she didn't deserve that." -Stefan
- Awesome move Stefan! Great friend move!
- Stefan walks away

- Mia continues to chant
- Nadia wonders where Katherine wants to go afterwards
- Elena doesn't answer right away
- A shift in control happens within Elena's body
- It happened so fast that I can't tell who's really in control now
- Katherine/Elena attack Mia then Nadia before running off

- Damon arrives at the party...only to be stopped at the threshold
- Damon calls for Matt...no luck
- Damon walks away
Tomb
- Nadia calls out to Mia
- Nadia tells Mia to finish the spell
Woods
- Katherine/Elena stops running and takes her phone out
- Katherine/Elena can't access her phone
(does that mean she's Katherine who can't get into Elena's phone or did Katherine change the code?)
- Katherine's memories flash through Elena's mind (starting from 1492)
- In the tomb, Mia sets Katherine's body on fire
- Elena runs as the flashes continue
Outside Lockwood Mansion
- Elena reaches the party
- Elena spots Damon and rushes into his arms
- Elena's eyes turn black

- Mia announces that the spell is complete
Outside Lockwood Mansion
- Damon wants Elena to say something
- Katherine/Elena wants to talk
- Damon starts to apologize
- "You are the best influence on me. I need you. You are the good and I need a little good in my life because
without it, there is an awful lot of darkness." -Damon
- Katherine/Elena comments on the pressure that puts on her
- Katherine/Elena brings up how Damon had tortured Katherine on her deathbed
- Katherine is in control since Elena wouldn't have know that
- Katherine/Elena tells Damon that he was right to let him go and that they are over
- Katherine/Elena walks away...with a smirk (it's Katherine)
- Stefan calls out to Damon
- THAT IS CRUEL!!! That was like the best speech ever and yet they pulled a 1x22 on us!!
COMMERCIAL
Lockwood Mansion
- Matt is cleaning up when he finds Tyler (drunk)
- Tyler rants about his horrible situation (upside is that he has a 'big ass house')
- Matt suggests that they leave for awhile
- ROAD TRIP!
- Tyler confesses that Klaus broke him in New Orleans and just when he thought he couldn't hurt him any more
...Klaus did (through Caroline)
- Matt comforts Tyler
- I love the bromance here!
Tomb
- Mia reassures Nadia that Katherine is in full control of Elena's body
- Mia wants her payment
- Katherine kills Mia (loose end)
- Nadia gets ready to leave
- Katherine announces that she's not leaving town
- I just noticed that the red streak is gone from Elena's hair
- Nadia wonders about herself in Katherine's new plan
- Katherine tells Nadia to stay
- Nadia agrees yet she knows that 'normal life' isn't all that Katherine wants
- "I want my daughter, I want my immortality and I want Stefan Salvatore. He's my one true love." -Katherine
- God I hate her
Boarding House
- Caroline is drinking tea
- Stefan walks in (he was looking for her)
- Caroline wants Stefan to tell her if she is a horrible person
- Stefan tries to bring up comparisons to the situation (ie: Stefan/Katherine in 5x09)
- Stefan tells Caroline the opposite (he tells her the negatives)
- "Hey, I'm vulnerable." -Caroline
- They laugh together
Road
- Driver stops when he sees a body on the road
- Aaron exits and finds Enzo on the ground
- Enzo and Damon have been waiting for him
- Aaron brings up Elena to Damon
- Damon gives a speech about being conflicted
- Damon attacks Aaron by ripping into his neck
- "Now that's the Damon Salvatore I remember." -Enzo
CREDITS
The very moment that turned my reaction around was Elena/Katherine's denial of Damon's confession. That is where my hopes were dashed! How dare you!! I'm very disappointed! You'd think the Delena breakup would be disappointing but THIS trumped that!
I would have to say that the only goods parts of this episode for me were:
a) Matt/Tyler bromance
b) Damon/Elena hug (before the black eyes appeared)
c) Montage of Katherine's memories (not the possession itself) -- I just love when we see old footage again
d) Caroline/Stefan (back at the boarding house)
e) Caroline being swayed to Team Delena
f) Nina's performance as she continued to flip flop between Elena/Katherine in the same body (she was great as she had me guessing when she was in the tomb)
Aside from these moments, I wasn't leaping from my seat in joy. =(
Just had a brainstorming breakthrough!
If Elena “ceases to exist”, does that mean she is on The Other Side?
If so then doesn’t that mean it’s only a matter of time (they better know within the hour) until Bonnie and Jeremy realize this?!?!?!?!
I mean, come on!
What’s the point in having two characters that could interact with the ghosts of former supernatural beings if they aren’t going to use it to their full advantage?
